Re: just had my first consultation :)
Hiya,
Congrats on 1st consultation, I only had consultations with one consultant as was soo busy with work I didn't have time to see any others, however this consultant surgeon was recommended to me by friends anyway and my friend came with me to my first consultation as I didn't kmow what to expect!!!
A piece of advice would be to go and see a baaaps/bapras registered surgeon as well for their opinion they may charge but it may come off the total cost of surgery.

What many people don't understand bout BAAPS/BAPRAS surgeons is the extent of their work to become members of this prestigious association
Quote from HEREA Plastic Surgeon who is a member of BAAPS or BAPRAS Member will have undergone a six-year training programme in an NHS teaching hospital, where they would be regularly assessed and examined. BAAPS and BAPRAS Members have (or had in the past) Consultant Appointments in Plastic Surgery in the NHS. Members are continually keeping up to date with surgical advances through scientific meetings organized by BAAPS and BAPRAS, both in the UK and abroad.
All BAAPS and BAPRAS Members are on the Specialist Register of Plastic Surgeons. You can check whether a surgeon is on the Specialist Register by telephoning the General Medical Council Registry line 0845 357 3456. General surgeons and surgeons from other specialties also perform cosmetic surgery.
BAAPS and BAPRAS Members work in the most reputable hospitals and clinics, those affiliated to the private wings of the NHS hospitals, as well as well-known private hospitals.
BUPA, Axa PPP and other health insurance companies recognize BAAPS and BAPRAS members. Surgical operations related to reconstruction and other medical matters may be insured, although insurance companies do not usually fund cosmetic procedures. A referral will be accepted by your GP from all BAAPS and BAPRAS Members.
BAAPS and BAPRAS Members are very well informed in the field of Plastic Surgery and will be able to advise you of the best range of treatment available to you. This would never be in the form of a sales pitch, as members are not motivated by profit.
Of course there are many good surgeons who work for the large clinics, but you do have to research them VERY carefully and ensure they are on the GMC register an on the specialist register for 'plastic surgery' I recently found some surgeons aren't on a specialist register and some surgeons working in the large clinics are only on a specialist register for 'general surgery'... So if you go for the large clinic be sure you check hun. With BAAPS/BAPRAS you have an assurance of a surgeon of excellence. Xx

Re: just had my first consultation :)
Hey Gemma,
Oooh exciting news about the first consultation. It's good to finally get to a consultation as it makes it seem all the more real.
There are a few ladies on here that have used that surgeon, but as Cookie says you do need to check on the GMC website to make sure that some of the surgeons from the larger clinics are on the specialist register for plastic surgery.
I used THG and had a fantastic experience but I did research my surgeon well first. I did see another surgeon with them and although he was very nice and very helpful during the consultation, it turns out he is not on the specialist register at all.
As everyone has already said just make sure you do your research and take time making a decision.x

This is what is involved in becoming a BAAPS member:
Source HEREA Plastic Surgeon who is a member of BAAPS or BAPRAS Member will have undergone a six-year training programme in an NHS teaching hospital, where they would be regularly assessed and examined. BAAPS members don't PAY to become members. If it were that easy all surgeons would be buying in.... I mean, its not like they're skint is it lol.
After having the experience required 2 BAAPS members have to vote a member in. This is based on their skill. Once their accepted based on the 2 BAAPS members mentoring them, they then still aren't BAAPS members, they are 'trainees' they have to undergo more training under instruction from their mentors and only when they see fit that the surgeons work is up to standard will a surgeon be a 'full' BAAPS member.
Large clinics do not attract BAAPS members because of these ruthless practises to gain business. Its ALL about the money for them, so they will tell whatever it is they want you to hear in order to get that signing!
Disgraceful!
But not at all surprising

Re: just had my first consultation :)
It's late so I'll be quick and follow up tomorrow with a decent reply - I had Paganelli. I'm 3 weeks post op. I am 5ft 2, 8 st, pre op 34A and had 385cc unders and am currently a 34D but that's according to M&S sports bra. It's early days so I don't know what my end size will be.
So far, so good. Paganelli seemed a patient man with a good ear. I said because of frame, I'd like natural looking boobs. He offered several cc test implants on me and I decided on a small d. He seems quietly confident and calm. My incisions are healing very well and my boobs are dropping fine. I would love to say he's great etc etc but I'm only 3 weeks post op. So I can only say my experience so far has been a slick, professional one. Fingers crossed it continues. He's asked I wear a sports bra for 4 wks and a strap for 3. I'll try to help more tomorrow. Nik xx

That's awful , and the reason WHY Pcc 's or sales women should be taken out of the equation of these companies , after all if you were to go private for any other medical issue or surgery you wouldn't go through a sales coordinatorCOOKIE wrote:This is an outright lie and one of the very reasons why these PCCS have such a bad nameGemma134uk wrote: i asked THG to see if any of there surgeons was 1 and they said surgeons just pay to become a member if they want to im confued lol so many different things to do lol x

Re: just had my first consultation :)
Congratulations on starting your journey hun. Definitely book a couple more consultations with BAAPS surgeons, if you then decide to go with your original consultation that's fine, but if you went with him without other opinions and things were to go wrong I'm sure you'd regret it not having other opinions to have helped you make an informed choice. Good luck hun :) xx

Re: just had my first consultation :)
Def get at least another opinion, I went to one surgeon who I didn't go with and it just made me feel so much better about the surgeon I chose as he was so nice and my friend recommended him.
It's a lot of money to spend you want to make sure you get the best surgeon for you, might as well shop around. :). X

PCCs are renowned for lying though, I wouldn't trust a word that came out of their mouth and anyone seeing a lovely, sweet, charming PCC that you think is so kind and looks after you.... Please ALWAYS remember, they aren't working for you.... They're working for the clinic! And will do and say ANYTHING to ensure the CLINIC is happy. Xx
Re: just had my first consultation :)
Hi, it's me again. I think the general advice here is quite strongly angled to get additional consultations before going ahead with Dr Paganelli. So I'll not say much more. I hope you have a stress-free BA journey whoever you decided to go with. Whether or not I have the best experience available to me or not, I'll always regret only seeing 2 companies (Harley Med and THG) just because it's very out of character for me to lack on the research side of things. I can only tell you my experience so far. I'm 100% happy with it all. The company and surgeon. I have to embarrassingly admit I had no idea about the different qualifications a surgeon has. I put my trust in THG and when allocated Dr P, I did my research on him alone and found only positive feedback. I saw his quals/experience as a positive thing (it's a personal choice if you're decided upon a UK trained surgeon or someone who gained their quals elsewhere). I must've been happy with Dr P's or I'd have dug deeper. If you do further research, at least you'll know you chose the best for you. The rest is in the hands of the surgeon (literally!).
He was honest with me what would look fake on my frame and was confident with what cc would give me the full breast without the shock factor. Nik x

Re: just had my first consultation :)
Gemma, hello ...
Hmmm - i would suggest you see a BAAPS reg PS ..
Now i know a lot of ladies here have had the full works - ie - ba/ lift / etc ..
I would investigate ALOT deeper once its gone past a BA only (not saying dont do a lot when you have a BA, but alot more when you are having more done)
I originally got told at Transform by a PCC that i will need an uplift .. now i have no medical background but i sure knew i didnt need an uplift .. i hardly fill an 'a' cup ... I have nothing - so when you take away the little skin i have - then what else ...
I mentioned this in my diary and quickly the ladies came forward and told me about what PCCs really are ..
so with that knowledge underneath my belt - i walked away to next consultation and finding out why i may need one or not!
when i say mr m - even though he is not BAAPS reg - he said immediately you dont need one now and unless something drastic really happens you should not need one again ..
He then went on to explain - saying to have an uplift - i needed to have at least 8cm or more boob skin .. i had 4cm on one and barely 3cm on the other
Now i am not stopping there - I am going to ask EVERY SINGLE PS i meet till i make my decision ...
PLEASE do get additional consultations ..
if i had 2 PS tell me that i could need an uplift in the future or etc - honestly - i would change my dates and start my investigation all over again ..
so far - i am learning more about ba - not alot about uplifts .. so if i need an uplift - i want to learn ALOT more about the entire process and it 'may' have an effect on my decision as a whole to have ba in the 1st place..
plus - btw uplifts are so expensive ...

Re: just had my first consultation :)
oops - hit send .. silly me ...
to me - the PS is one entity and the clinic is another .. as I have seen on this forum - some ladies have had fantastic surgeons who work for big companies and the company policy prevents the PS from been able to act ...
hence why its paramount that one is happy and comfy with both PS and Clinic / Company ...
this is really hardwork and i wish people realised how much efforts we go through to get what we should have had anyways
loooool
