Re: October Buddies
Hiya Wend,
Welcome to October buddies! Not sure about some of your questions as your op is a day before mine but from what I've read and my surgeon all say driving after a week...
Are you having anything special done or just straightforward implants? The norm is 2 weeks off work I think.
Do you have help with your small child? There is a link somewhere on here that says what you will and won't be able to do with them... I wish I knew how to link it!
X

Ahh ok I thought you meant you would be on your own with a baby... I think they say your first week you get really tired and fall asleep all the time but I'm sure someone will be along soon who knows more.
Maybe your surgeon is over cautious of work recommending 4 weeks?
Are you excited? Have you got all your stuff sorted?

Re: October Buddies
Hiya Wend, I am also a nurse and have a 2 year old! I am 10 days post surgery now and needed help with the toddler beast for the first week. I couldn't lift him up into the car till yesterday but i have a 4x4 so its quite high to get him up into and he cant manage it himself yet. I was on my own with him for 2 days a week post op and we managed but i did have a couple of moments where i needed to pick him up and it really hurt. He has also been playing up as i think he realised i couldn;t get him to his time out place which has been errrm fun!
Nursing it depends on where you work really. If its a heavy ward then i think you would struggle before 4 weeks, i could go back next week on light duties to a mostly self caring surgical ward though i think. I am awaiting my start date for a District Nurses Post so i will end up having around 4 weeks off which i dont think i will actually need . I am still tired have to take pain killers if i do too much as i ache and my sleep is disturbed. Really wouldn't fancy a busy ward shift ATM!
I paid on the day btw, i went through a ramsay hospital and they were fine with that as long as it was cash or debit /card. I got an invoice the week before surgery.

Yes your right they have to be cautious, and yes I'm excited and nervous at the same time. It seemed like forever to wait but now it's so close! I have been so busy lately that I havnt bought anything! My surgeon recommended the sports bras from John Lewis, so will get a few of them. I NEVER sleep on my back so that will be a challenge! Although he did say just sleep how you are comfortable but I guess it will be a while til I can sleep on my side!

Amyblue... Thanks for your reply and sounds like your doing really well.. Bless your wee boy taking advantage of the fact he won't get put to naughty place haha.. They're so funny!
I do work a medical ward and my work don't know about my surgery yet! I think I will just put a line in from my doctor for two maybe three weeks.
Was you in overnight?x

Yeah I'm worried about sleeping on my back - I have a bad back anyway so that's going to be really difficult.
I haven't got anything yet, I will start getting bits next week I think.. It's very exciting - but scary! X

Re: October Buddies
I stayed overnight.. and i actually enjoyed it. I pressed the nurse call bell after getting a bollocking for trotting up to the nurses station for not wanting to press the bell at first. Never would i have thought i would have called a nurse It was lovely really clean i got a posh toiletries kit on arrival and newspaper. World away from the NHS which much as i will defend till the end doesn't quite have the same niceness. I was adamant i wouldn't be staying and would hate being the patient but the poor gas man had given me every anti emetic in his box of tricks and i was still puking . Actually the night sister had the best advice and rammed a biscuit into me which made me feel a whole lot better. I liked it so much there i am hoping to go back on the bank to keep my surgical ward skills up to speed as much as i love community nursing its very different skillset.
I got a sick note from my surgeon btw which just said surgery on it . Covers a multitude of sins that does and you can say what you want then .

Re: October Buddies
Hi Wendy, welcome to October buddies. You always have mixed emotions before B.A.
I'm a hairdresser and taking just under 2 weeks off, I've got about 8 days left, and the improvement in just these last couple days been very good. My right arm is brilliant on movement can get high above my head however my left not so high, but getting there.
Driving isn't it 1-2 weeks, they say it invalidates your insurance if you go back to driving too soon. Also you have got to be able to perform an emergency stop safely.
I drive an auto, so giving it couple days then may see how I get on.
I will be honest, the back sleeping is awful, hate it. Got a v.pillow, I do the pillow pyramid as recommended on here. And got a travel pillow to stop my head bobbing around..... They say you have to stay propped to reduce swelling..... It does help. I had 2 proceedures so I'm doing all they told me. I want to be back to work and feel as well as I can.
It's very exciting for you babe, the countdown for you now... Xx

Hey ladies
Hope everyone has been enjoying their weekend.
Rachij, I should think you're all packed and ready to go now? Are you excited or nervous?
I've been feeling fine for the last couple of days. Like you Bizzy I can get one of my arms above my head, the other is a little difficult. Just means I can actually put a few different items of clothing on now, rather than just a huge baggy old jumper!
My surgeon suggested two weeks to me before I start driving. I am technically back at work on Tuesday, but I am working from home Tuesday and Wednesday. Off on the train on Thursday!! I work in a bank so nothing too strenuous for me, apart from the odd heavy door!
I've been researching independent lingerie shops after seeing it suggested on this forum! I never realised there were so many near to me. Amazing what's out there that you don't know about, when you're not looking for it!
Before my BA I honestly couldn't imagine going anywhere near a decent lingerie shop! The thought would have brought me out in a cold sweat! Amazing how two little mounds on your chest changes your perspective on things!!
Hope everyone is ok. Nearly halfway through October already! Won't be long before all us October buddies are done and sporting our new assets!!x

Hi cab, I've still got a few things to pack, flat shoes for coming home in as don't want to be worrying about tripping over in heels will have much more important things to worry about.
I'm both excited and nervous - I know my admission time of 1230 and this is only a guess but feeling that I may be having op around 3pm we'll see and will keep updating.

Thanks Bizzy, I love being a godmother, I have 2 goddaughters and 2 god sons and I am very proud that people like me enough ha ha!
Does the ga stop you going then? Get a curry from near me ha ha! I wouldn't mind but I don't even like curry and it was a veggie one anyway. I only had it as my hubby loves curry and we always have Chinese on take out night. Luckily the kids didn't eat it. X

Rachij you'll be fine. Enjoy it as it'll all be over very quickly.
Lias, congratulations on becoming a godmother again, definitely not on the food poisoning.
Bizzy, are you still struggling with the after effects of the GA. Someone on here a while back drank prime juice! Apparently it worked a treat. The first day after surgery I ate loads of fruit and veg, which seemed to work. Makes you feel rubbish, in addition to everything else! Hopefully you'll get the trip to the bathroom you've been waiting for soon!! Just hope no one has to go in there too soon afterwards!! Haha!!x

Re: October Buddies
Thanks cab, I gained 2 this weekend. Christmas is going to be very expensive!
How are you feeling? I will try the fruit and veg thing after my op. I'm not keen on prune juice (is that what you meant?)
I'm going to call the girls in the office today to ask what size zbra they are providing for me and get a Macom too just in case but I may get a cheap sports bra in a bigger size just in case I don't get on with the Macom. I can't imagine my hubby will have much time to go bra shopping for me with 2 kids and all the housework!

Yes prune juice... Stupid phone auto correct.
Haha. Can you imagine your poor husbands face in a shop staring at a load of bras wondering which one to buy. I think he'd agree that you get them sorted beforehand too!!
Christmas is expensive enough with two little munchkins let alone four godchildren. I'm sure toys seem to get more expensive nearer to Christmas!! We're putting money into premium bonds again for ours this year. They're only little and they've got too many toys already. The family are bound to go nuts like always so I'm sure they won't miss out!!x

Ha ha I sent him to asda for a sports bra when I wanted to try the rice boobs on and he came back and said that there was another man there and he asked him for advise and he said to try a sports shop! Men eh!
That's a really good idea! My little boy wants a Ben 10 watch and that's all he wants so we won't go mad this year on them. My daughter is only a baby so she will be happy with a box! A lot of my friends have kids so we do a secret Santa. It saves about £200 each year! My godchildren however get utterly spoilt. I swear my hubby sees the bank balance going down whenever I get asked to be godmother ha ha.
How are you feeling now and how much are you able to do with the kids? Xx

Glad you're not feeling too bad Bizzy, hope you go soon! I'm feeling better thank god!
Good luck getting your stitches out - I bet you're excited!
I love Christmas too - lovely getting the family all together... I love dropping wine and chocolates to all the customers too, everyone is in good spirits near Christmas. Good on you for the charity work.
I spoke to mrs Kat's office today to ask what size z bra they had ordered me - apparently a small which is a 32! I said but I'm a 36 and the lady just said they had checked with mrs kat and that's the size she gave! Apparently they're like macoms that they don't have a cup size which is confusing because online they're in sizes! I just hope it's not going to be too tight as it will kill my back if it is! I think I need to measure my back again to make sure I am actually a 36 and not been wearing the wrong size bra all my life! I also asked when I would know when my preop was and she said oh much closer to the time - I'm thinking I've only got 2 weeks and 2 days until my op I hope they give enough time for me to get child are sorted.
Have a great day everyone

Re: October Buddies
Morning,
Yey Bizzy, stitches out tomorrow, you'll be able to unleash your new self on the world!!
It'll be nice to get out for some fresh air, probably make you feel loads better too!
My left side is hurting too. I'm right handed and expected that side to be more sore, since the muscle probably gets used more! However although my left side is sore, it's softened up so much already. I have having a little poke around with the new assets last night and the change in them over the last couple of days is bizarre.
The top of my left is starting to feel like a more normal boobie!!
I've managed to pick up my youngest too. I found that if you hold them really close to your chest and pick them up at their level on the floor it's ok. I don't think picking them up at arms length is an option just yet, so me doing bath time isn't an option just yet!! Oh well looks like Hubby will have to continue with that!!
I have to confess I am a little bit of a 'bah humbug' before Christmas. I hate the fact that the shops start selling Christmas stuff in October!!
However I do love buying gifts for the family and of course eating all the mince pies!!
We're having a quiet one this year, just me and my boys which will be lovely. For the last 3 years I've cooked for everyone so it'll be nice to cook for four rather than ten!
Hope everyone is ok.x

Re: October Buddies
Well I've said to hubby we will go out after stitches come out, maybe a spot of lunch somewhere.
It is amazing the changes, I feel tops of mine lil bit softer. They do say one boob has more trauma during surgery, that was my left one. Like you said though it does change daily.....
It's good you can hold the little one, that's progress in itself.... I'm sure your hubby don't mind doing bath time for bit longer....
It is a bit early that the shops start for Christmas, but I do love it all...... Love the build up..........
Just having my mum and dad for lunch. Going in laws for tea.... If I can possibly eat any more. Usually nibbles.....
Have a great day all xx
