Vitamins and Minerals before BA
Hi Girls, I have some questions:
I read somewhere here that you're not supposed to take Ginseng in the run up to a BA.
Does anyone know wether there are any other vitamins, minerals and supplements that are best left alone?
I usually take Magnesium,Glucosamine ,Cod Liver Oil, Vit C. And a high strength Calcium and Vit D combination, on prescription. Us Oldies need to look after our joints:yes: ...
Although I believe it's never too early to start taking some of these .
I forgot to ask my surgeon this.
And someone mentioned Arnica after the BA? What would this be beneficial for and how is it taken?
And are there any vitamins etc that would be good to add to my daily cocktail of supplements, after the BA and if so, why?

Re: Vitamins and Minerals before BA
Many of us take arnica before surgery (normally a week before and a week after) it's homeopathic and no proof it actually works but its for reducing bruising and swelling.
I'm not sure about the rest so ill let the other ladies answer that part but I think your not meant to take any vitamins at all in the run up to the BA ? Looking forward to seeing the answers also :) Xx

I looked on google to check and it does say no vitamins in the run up to surgery! Apperently it's because it can lead to excessive bleeding or can affect the GA... Ild double check with your clinic to make sure though because it seems like its very important! Xx

You'll have to stop taking any supplements for two weeks before surgery Puschinka. Xx
Re: Vitamins and Minerals before BA
As cookie has already said NO vitamin supplements for 2 weeks before surgery and 2 weeks after. And don't take arnica unless told to do so by your surgeon. If your in any doubt, give your clinic a call xx

Yes, I also take pretty much what you've listed and I was told to stop taking them all two weeks before the surgery due to possible bleeding complications.

Wow, thanks guys!!! That was a close one... Seems I asked that question in the nick of time ( BA is 2 weeks on Saturday:shock: !!) And there was me thinking I was doing the right thing. OK - no more vitamins/minerals from now on then. Cookie - the garlic, I usually take that too, and zinc also.
Thank you all for putting me right on this one.
