Do you mean for massaging the scars? if so, Bio oil. there's a special one for scars. Dolan Park is lovely, the only bad things are the longggg wait (I had to wait from 8am to 3.30pm before going down to theatre) and the early morning wake-up call (around 5am) xx

Re: best cream to use for healing?
There's really no need to spending lots of money of scar treatments. Its the actual motion of the massage that's going to break down that scar tissue and give you a nice flat scar rather than the creams or oils. So don't be pressed by clinics selling their own products. They're only lining their own pockets and bio-oil is amazingly cheap now and more than enough to help with the massage motion.
I actually didnt use a single thing on my first scars and they were barely visible at all and very flat. Unless I pointed them out you wouldn't have known they were there as you can see in this thread [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] (you may need to give the pic in the opening post a moment to load)

That's daylight robbery!
I certainly wouldn't be paying that when you can buy bio-oil for a couple of pound! Xx

Re: best cream to use for healing?
Hi Twig. I was wary of the tamanu balm, as it looked like just another money spinner, but after some research I bought it, and its fantastic! Ive been using it for 2wks on my scars, but all over anywhere I have dry skin, 3days use and the dry skin's gone. Love it. Bit stinky, but great!
Also, I had a really good experience at Dolan Park. In at 7, sugery at 10am.

Its an oil created specially for scars.... But to be honest, it just helps makes the 'massage' easier which is what is going to break down scar tissue. You hear this popping and crackling noises as you break it down as you use the circular motions across your scars.
Like I said Jennifer it makes the massage easier, I never used anything on my first scars and they were perfect! If you're gong to have keloid or bad scarring nothing at all is going to help fix that and that's a proven fact! No scar treatments can make bad scars go away... And if you do unfortunately have 'bad scars' then maybe trying proven methods of scar treatments such as silicone sheets or gel may help 'a little' but its really not worth going to to a lot of expense on scar treatments if your scars look good... It really is just a waste of money. Xx
Re: best cream to use for healing?
That's intresting thanks cookie, I was thinking about other scars too, I have a about a 4cm scar on the top side of my wrist from the oven and it doesn't look very nice! Im going to wait until I get nearer the time and see what happens, I scar easily!
Whens your BA twig? Its exciting!! xx

Re: best cream to use for healing?
If you think you might be prone to keloid scarring hun, then it would be best to go through this with your surgeon pre-op. its not going to stop or affect your surgery plan at all, your surgeon will just keep a keener eye on your scars and advise if necessary further steps they'd like you to take. Xx
Re: best cream to use for healing?
They were running a bit behind on my room with me, so had all my pre stuff done in a consulting room. No bloods, but BP, height weigh, leg diameter for stocking etc done. To the room, then they asked if i'd showered that morning (i had) as there wasnt really time for me! In the gown, surgeon, anethetist, off we go! I quite liked it like that, no time to get nervous!

Re: best cream to use for healing?
Sophia, I paid the £20 too, feel a bit ripped off now! But it does work wonders on your skin, and a little goes a loooong way! And Id rather have a greasy bra, than all the dead skin falling out of it again!

Re: best cream to use for healing?
I have bio oil which I love (so cheap in primark), but I also bought dermatrix or dermatix I forgotten... £24 quid.... for the teeeennniiiissssstttttttttt tube... Mad moment i know.. But I cant say its working.. My scars aren't bad just red after wearing a bra all day... When Ive gone braless for a day they lighten and are a soft pink not too bad at all and also there not hard any more not sure if this is the massage motion or just the fact that it takes time? ...
But I wouldn't recommend it just bio oil is fine... Feels nicer too.

Re: best cream to use for healing?
i seem to remember paying about £15 for my bio oil at boots? not cheap!
i have yet to start using it on my scars but i used it all over my boobs pre op to keep the skin supple and less prone to stretch marks.
dolan park hospital is lovely as are the staff there. if you type dolan park into the search bar on the top of this site you'll find a fairly recent thread where a lot of recent dolan park girls told their stories about their op day and experience there which should help you x
