How safe is GA Empty How safe is GA

Post by Princessjo30 8th July 2013, 7:26 pm

I'm starting to freak out about the GA.

Does anyone know how safe it is? Do you know of anyone that had serious complications from it?

I would never have been scared before I had my children, I think they make you worry about everything sad smile

I was scared of it too due to THG giving me a booklet about it listing all the side effects, and it said things like death and being paralysed. I knew those things can happen, but it's a risk we all take when we choose to go under a GA for cosmetic reasons really. Obviously a GA is quite a common thing though x

Researching online, it says that they are very safe (obviously your always going to have exceptions) .
I cant answer your question apart from reminding you that your surgeon and anaesthetist does this everyday...its their job. Your given the rules such as no eating to make it even safer. If GA's were unsafe, or had a lot of people ill etc from them then you would imagine we would hear more about this.

Ive had a GA before (obvs still pre ba though) and although it seems scary, like a lot of the girls experiences here, it is the easiest bit and you will wake up thinking no time has passed at all xx Hug

I've been on this forum for almost 4 years babe and seen about 6000 women come through here - NO-ONE had any serious complication. The worst I know of has been sickness after surgery.

If you're using a reputable clinic, a fully qualified surgeon, have disclosed all medicines you may be taking and follow all pre-op advise you should be absolutely fine Jo. Xx

it is very very safe hun, the anesthetists are highly qualified and skilled professionals, and GA's are given to hundreds of people every day.

like other post oppers will be able to tell you as well, the GA is the easiest thing about the whole process and is really nothing to worry about at all!

i worried as well and i think its normal, but try not to, honestly! :)

 Totally normal Jo Hug

Have a look at this thread [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] about 'pre-op jitters' hun. The biggest concern we mostly have is the GA and we all come back just fine :ok:

Maybe reading some stories left by some of our lovely ladies here might help. Reading how happy everyone is after waking is a great tonic for all pre-oppers having a case of the pre-op jitters. Xx

the thing that i was most scared about was waking up during op but being paralysed so not being able to scream but my anesthetist told me that the paralysing agent isn't used during a BA cos it's a straight forward procedure.

Also, your anesthetist will go through full medical training and then an additional 5 - 8 years specialist training so they are very very well trained you are in extremely safe hands hun xx
