The top things no one tells you...
Thought I would start a thread with all the things I wish I knew prior to having my surgery so here goes...
1, You might feel like cancelling at the last minute or feel like running out of the theatre... its normal and its just nerves but its a horrible feeling. Just remember why you wanted this
2, In the early days you may hate you new boobs, again this is normal but quite scary when you have invested so much emotionally and financially. Patience is the key here.
3, You get boob envy... a common one... wishing you had gone bigger... again all normal. Hopefully time will help you love them and make you realise how big they actually are!
4, You will look pregnant!! At least in your own head anyway! The post op bloating can be horrible and can last a few weeks. Its normal.. you havent swallowed a baby its swelling and a slow bowel that causes this.
5, You might gain 8lb+ in a few days.. again post op swelling etc cause this to happen, dont panic it will go as soon as the swelling subsides.
6, You get withdrawal symptoms from the gym/exercise... nor for everyone but if you are an avid gym bunny you will miss it and after a week or so you will really want to get back there but try to enjoy the free time as much as possible, 6 week does go quick.
7, You get spotty... my boobs were covered it little white heads and my face looked like a teenagers! It all went at about week 2 but it was horrible!
8, You get obsessed with boobs.. everywhere I looked I would compare my boobs with everyone elses.. it tends to start pre op but I found I was worse post op!
9, Your back and bum hurt more than your boobs! All that sleeping sat up takes its toll!!
10, Your boobs look and feel like hard rocks... I really wasnt expecting them to feel as hard as they did... thankfully they do soften nicely!!
11, You dread being braless... in the first few weeks taking the sports bra off is a horrible feeling.. you feel like your implants are going to drop right out. This subsided for me around 6 weeks post op.
12, You find out who your friends are... having a BA brings out the green eyed monster in some people and you can find out quickly who you can trust!
13, Morning boob..... enough said. That horrible pain in your boobs when you get up in the morning as the blood rushes into them.. nothing could prepare me for this.. the feeling was horrible and so pianful it made me sick to my stomach but luckily it lasted a couple of seconds and settled.. it stopped altogether around 2 weeks post op.
14, Noisy boobs... I had fart sounds coming from around my implants during the first week or so... it sounded and felt very strange but its fluid and air trapped around the implant and it settles itself.
Think thats the majority of things I found out along the way!!

the main one for me would prob be how long the whole healing process takes! due to circumstances i ended up researching for about 2yrs before having BA so I was aware of this but there are lots of girls I think who aren't prepared for just how long a journey it will be until boobs are fully healed!

Re: The top things no one tells you...
Thanks to this forum and you lovely girls I was prepared for most things! The
Ones that really got me is how awfull they looked post op, and for many weeks, they are at 9 weeks finally starting to look like proper boobs.
And the patience, oh my god do you need patience!! Getting up every day and checking to see if they've dropped! Then finding out it could take 6 months to a year! No one tells you that!! X

Re: The top things no one tells you...
All because its written that you will get morning boob, farting boobs ,major pain not all girls get this
No one tells you that it maybe a lot easier than you think. I found all the negative points quite daunting..it wasn't bad at all, haven't had 10th of pain etc that most have.
They also don't tell you that if you have a history of depression, the GA can hit you 10fold. Very important to understand why you feel the way thou do.

Re: The top things no one tells you...
Thanks so much for this great post, I exercise all the time and I didn't know you might gain weight after a ba - I have made a decision not to weigh myself as it will be swelling and bloating and fingers crossed it will disappear - and not looking forward to morning boob -is it like when your milk comes through (for those of you with children) because honestly that was painful ? Re: The top things no one tells you...
I agree with Kenzie in that I wouldn't want a pre-op girl to read this post an think they should expect all of the points listed in this thread.
I didn't have weight gain, bloating, spots and haven't so far had boob greed. My back and bum haven't hurt and I haven't had noisy boobs, but I did feel like backing out last minute and I did wonder constantly if I was doing the right thing. I also didn't like my boobs all that much until I got my strapping off.
I would say my top surprise was at how quickly I healed and how little pain I had. I was expecting to be in excruciating pain by what I had read of others experiences. x

Thank you 5stonedown for such an informative post. Must say, I'm pretty scared now though!!
Kenzie, do you mind elaborating a bit with regards to the GA and a history of depression? xx

Re: The top things no one tells you...
Happy1day, it is just like your milk is coming in! But don't worry, I only had morning boob for 2 days! And it only lasts for a few seconds/mins.
On the bright side, I had no pain at all and no tightness! I did get boobie blues, not as bad as kenzie but I would burst into tears at the smallest thing sometimes for no reason at all x

Loclo, it's awfull isn't it! Looking in the mirror thinking please let it be today lol x
And the spots are awfull, I just can't get them to go. When I think I'm winning and they're going, I suddenly have another break out! But I have boobies, so I'm happy xx

Re: The top things no one tells you...
For me it was the tiredness! Could not keep my eyes open during the first 2-5 days I was exhausted. And I literally was doing nothing all day but still felt totally shattered.
I have got morning boob but I've not found it bad really, just a heavy feeling before sitting up and then it goes in about 2 seconds (not painful for me).
I have to say its so nerve racking being pre op and seeing all the after effects but like others have said, everyone is so different and while I've suffered with some things, I seem to have avoided others so there's no point worrying about it too much because the stress will probably do you more harm than your BA haha! Just have to take each day as it comes and be aware of all these things as possible side effects x

Re: The top things no one tells you...
Just wanted to say I had most of the things on the what to expect list, most of which I wasn't expecting, especially how little I was able to do.But wanted to add after I,d got through the first week the difference was amazing so for any further ops I know if the worst happens its only for a short time and if it doesn't,t like a lot of ladies then all the better, would go through it all again in an instant! Re: The top things no one tells you...
In short I had a bad pang of depression/anxiety 3 years ago. Been pretty good since then but the GA can make it worse.
I was really emotional, cried at everything and generally felt awful after surgery.
My boobs were not what I thought and I was determined to get them redone asap , even go abroad. This lasted about a month.
My doctor and nurse both said its down to the GA and thaty moods will improve.
Which it did majorly. I think its not spoken about enough at surgery.
My GP signed me fit for surgery which I was.
