Things to do before the big day... Empty Things to do before the big day...

Post by Parisgirl23 18th June 2012, 9:14 am

Hi ladies,

Just wondering if there's any last minute need to know information before the big day?

It's a week tomorrow till my big day and I'm having a few bad dreams and feeling a bit guilty but I know it's definitely what I want to do and I'm also very excited!!

I'm moving house this week AND have a job interview tomorrow so think my brain has lots going on which is probably why I have been a snappy evil woman this weekend, think my only saving grace for my poor boyfriend is the fact he has got to look at LOADS of boobs.

Just reading through all my booklets from Transform and have read that I need to inform my doctor, is this true?

Also constipation? NOO! I don't want to be bloated!!!

Hiya sweetie you must be v excited?!

Good luck with the job interview and the house move!

I bet you're more prepared than you think, and I wasn't constipated for long, just drink loads of water! As for telling your dr I guess you should pop in if that's what Transform are saying but after surgery the ps gave me a letter to give to my GP anyway so I don't think them knowing beforehand makes much difference.
If you haven't already I would pack a post BA box of meds, vest tops and baby wipes etc, just the essentials as after your BA I doubt you'll fancy rummaging through all your belongings! :)

I didn't inform my GP after my 1st BA, but that was 5 years ago things may have changed now...My second BA, i had no choice but inform my GP and keep her involved in all my care due to an ongoing medical condition...

I suppose as informing your GP is entirely in your hands, it would be up to you what you do with the information and instruction you've been provided with.... Things to do before the big day... 267328.

I personally wish I'd informed my GP though first time around, because she never knew, even after examining me have breast lumps, she had no clue and I really wanted it kept to myself, but she was so shocked when I had a complication and had to inform her and wasn't very helpful at all and I think this was because it was such a shock to her...

Since then I've thought about breast problems quite a lot and think if I had any bother at all with my breasts, now that she's aware I have breast implants, she can arrange the necessary tests that would be required for women with implants e.g. (a scan instead of a mammogram) xx

Just some suggestions for when you get home -

Anything you think you're going to use/wear/cook keep that at a level that can be handled with you having to raise your arms.

Sort out easy wear clothing for your first week, the comfier the better, such as leggings, vest tops big enough for you to step into, zip up tops, button through tops.

You could cook now before your move starts, freezing as many meals as you can, this way, after you've moved and had your BA, you can just relax and grab something out of the freezer to pop into the microwave rather than have to cook.

Do all your shopping, pay any bills that need sorting and post any letters that need to be gotten out before your surgery, taking away any worries there too.

If you haven't already, buy yourself a little hot water bottle or a wheat bag you can pop into the micro-wave, a V-Pillow and a couple of ice packs (these arent essential as you can use frozen bags of peas/corn rice if you'd rather) The heat, the pillow and the ice will all become the best thing ever after surgery.

Buy some Senna, just incase you do suffer some constipation.

And lastly, sort out your entertainment, 'cos chances are you're going to very very bored sitting around all day. So get yourself some DVDs in and any books you might like to read to. xx

Post by Parisgirl23 18th June 2012, 1:35 pm

Thank you ladies! Lots of lovely advice.

I'm going shopping tomorrow after my job interview to buy some books and dvds etc. And will stock up on some tasty food this weekend.

I'm absolutely dreading not being able to go to the gym, going to go everyday this week and will have to go for some long walks post-op. Hopefully I can go in and do some cycling or something after a few weeks.

Should I take my own dressing gown and slippers??

With me moving house I think I will just tell my new doctor when I register, thanks hun. Is everything ok with you now? Sorry to hear you've had some problems.

I'm getting REALLY excited Things to do before the big day... 773440 XX

All the advice I would give has been given but I really will advise you to go to Wilkos/Wilkinsons (whatever it's called). They sell reusable first aid heat/ice packs. So they can be used in the microwave or freezer and they're incredibly cheap (£1-2)! I think these were an absolute lifesaver and they're a great size (the width of my boobs) so no stinky defrosted peas down my top for two weeks haha.

Stock up on plenty of DVDs and box sets, you'll be bored stiff... I think I spent all of my time glued to BJSF!x

Yes I would take your own dressing gown and slippers, or you may end up in your trainers holding your backless hospital own closed trying to hide your sexy paper knickers on your way to theatre lol.

The only other additional advice I can give you is enjoy it as much as you can, enjoy the build up and that lovely moment on boobie day when you wake up and realise it's all done. It's a fantastic feeling.

Are you going with Transform? I used their gown and didn't wear slippers just went barefoot.

I also agree, enjoy every second! I would happily go back and have my day all over again I loved every minute! Apart from waiting that was boring and there was nothing on TV so take a laptop/tablet and make sure there's films on them!!!x

Post by lilmonkeys 18th June 2012, 5:55 pm

I second everything that's been said! Also make the most of your last shower or bath before your op, go all out because it could be a while before you enjoy one again :o) I'm 2 days post op and I can't tell you how much I would love to be able to jump In a bubble bath to relieve my aching back.

Clothes, make sure you have clothes that you can easily get on, I had unders and can't even dress myself properly, I'm just kind of waving my hands around with my arms fixed to my side :o)

I appreciate that some people cope better than I seem to be but honestly, it's better to be armed with lots of info when it comes to your recovery.

I couldnt turn my lamp off last night as I couldn't reach the switch, I also couldn't open my en suite door as it opens outwards, or push the soap dispenser thingy, it really is the little things that can catch you out.

I have my hubby at home but it's frustrating not been able to do these things for myself.

Thankfully this stage shouldn't last too long so please don't worry, you only have to read the posts from ladies already been through it to realise this.

Hope this helps xxx

Got my keys to me new apartment yesterday yay! So I'm boxing stuff up today and moving tomorrow, got SO much to do.

Yea Alice I'm at Transform. I'll just go my flip flops so I can walk down in them.

I'm a day case do I need to pack a bag of stuff with me just in case?

I still haven't bought my bra either, big day on Tuesday aaah! I'm not sure what size to buy at all. I'm 34C ish now and getting 460cc overs.

Booked in for a second consultation tomorrow but I'm not sure whether to go, I wanted it because I thought I wanted to go bigger but now I think I'll be happy with the 460 and my PCC said I can discuss it on the day etc.

Oh another one, if you don't mind waxing, is to get your underarms done as you may find it difficult to shave for a little while

I took flip flops with me too originally to use for slippers but didn't use them in the end until it came to going home!

Yes pack a bag of things you could possibly need, better to not get caught short but do make sure you have someone to carry it for you after your op!

I think you should still go, you can just try the implants on one final time to ensure you're 100% happy, discuss any last minute concerns with him and also ask him what size sports bra you need to get!! even if it's only a quick consultation you may as well make use of your time slot. x

HA I already thought of this, I've asked my boyfriend to shave them for me... gonna give him a training session tonight. Might ask him to do my legs too.

Don't trust him with my lady parts though so may have to book in for a wax when I get too cave woman like.

I'm far too busy right now, it's crazy, moving all my stuff out of the old house and into my new apartment tomorrow so can unpack Friday and Saturday then clean the old house on Sunday. Hand the keys back Monday and BOOBS TUESDAY WEEEEEE!

I really hope I get everything unpacked, I'm so OCD it will drive me crazy that I can't clean / tidy.

I'm gonna be like 5-10 mins walk from Manchester City centre too so can always go for a walk n buy some dvds and get some tasty food from M&S / terrify Manchester with my no make-up face RAARRRRGGHHH.

I've just called Transform to ask about bra size, spoke to the nurse and she said to get a few and keep the receipt.. said to buy 34F, 34EE or 36E... I hope I'm 34F!

She said to bring my toothbrush and toothpaste and some lip balm cos my lips will be all dry and horrid.

I got some of those first aid things from Wilkinsons yesterday, THANKS!

It's possible sweetheart, it just depends where abouts you are on the list, you'll be given a general idea for when you're going into theatre by your nurse once she's settled you into your room and gone through more medical questions with you.

Anyone recommend any good books to read?

We've all been reading a trilogy of books that would keep you going through your recovery, it's a bit naughty, but the first book is riveting! My daughter is just reading it now, I got a text today from her in work saying "MUM! This book is so rude! But I can't put it down" hahaha
