Re: Still smoking aaagghhhh
hi hun. I've been reading this book written by 2 uk surgeons all about breast aug's and it says
"smoking, especially more than 5 cigarettes a day can increase the risk of anaesthetic complications. you will be advised to stop all smoking before your operation, ideally 6 weeks. this will significantly reduce the risk of chest infection. if this is not possible, it is extremely important not to smoke for 24 hours pre-admission or for seventy-two hours post-operatively"

Im struggling too, I am 12days from my op. I have cut down used to be maybe 5-10 a day and now sticking to 1 or 2 so I am hoping that will help..... just need to cut out those last 2 which is proving harder than I thought!
Just keep trying to remind myself that its for the good of my new boobs!!

Re: Still smoking aaagghhhh
It must be VERY hard for smokers to have to quit to get the best from their surgery, but try to stay focused girls...
This surgery is elective surgery. You chose to have this done. You want your boobs, you saved all the money, you're going to have to put yourself through a GA to get them and a major operation as well as a six week recovery.
Now think about the risks you put on yourself if you continue to smoke on the run up to your BA and whilst you're healing.
You increase the risk of getting capsular contracture
You increase the risk of infection
Its proven that smokers take longer to heal than non-smokers
You risk the possibility of necrosis (the skin tissue dying)
Smoking increases the risks of having anaesthesia (pneumonia, collapsed lungs)
Remember girls, that its great you're seeking alternative methods, but if those alternatives contain 'nicotine' you may as well be smoking. Its the 'nicotine' in your system that causes the problems, so you must stop if you can putting the nicotine into your system. Xx

Re: Still smoking aaagghhhh
Ive not smoked for 4 weeks now! Cold turkey as well
Ive been a miserable cow and the worst person to work with lol
The risks that Cookie has added scare me too much.
Is it really worth messing up your surgery and your future health
???

Re: Still smoking aaagghhhh
I was about 10 a day. Since my first consultation on the 26th of Feb I started cutting down, to 7 then 5 then 3 then 2 then 1 and now I haven't smoked for 2 days!!! It hasn't been too bad, though there are times when I'd really like one. My friend suggested than whenever I feel like having a smoke to sqeeze my boob and that should put me off! I did laugh about it but it does remind me why I'm doing this lol. I just hope I don't feel like smoking when walking down a busy road, I imagine I'd get some weird looks looooooooool (if I actually did that)!! I do it mentally though

Re: Still smoking aaagghhhh
On top of it being incredably bad for you ook at the complications cookie has pointed out. Why spend all that money and potentially risk it all for a fag?
I know its really tough as I used to smoke 40-60 a day when I was in my late teens early 20's. I gave up when I had my children but it was the best this I ever did. (I am also now a pt and would never have my dream job if I smoked)
I love the boob pinching tip! Perhaps try a mint when ever you get a craving and keep busy at times you'd have a fag. By changing your normal routine it will help with the cravings.
At the end of the day If you really want it done and value your long term health as well as your health and recovery you'd quit.
Good luck! x

Re: Still smoking aaagghhhh
Great tips Nikkinoo,
I'm just worried I'll put on weight as I know many people do after quitting. I'm not eating anything extra but I am originally a good eater, like something you'd see on the discovery channel. So I'm worried that it was the smoking that kept me slim. I'm trying to be careful and re-joined the gym so fingers crossed :-)

I did put on weight, some pregnancy but I think some smoking to. A friend of mine just joined weight watchers to help controle her weight whilst she stopped smoking. She is now 11 weeks with out and 6lbs lighter. Thats with out exercise. You can do it you just have to want it enough. xx
Re: Still smoking aaagghhhh
I do hope so, I'll do my best :-)

I'm a 34a to will go to a 34D. I've found the thread so I'm in the process of making it lol.
I've joined the gym a couple of weeks ago so will be pushing myself for the next week. I've always eaten healthy, but the quantities of what I can put away scare me even sometimes lol.
Well done for not putting on weight after quitting, how much did u smoke?

Re: Still smoking aaagghhhh
around 10 a day, sometimes a bit more or less. Went cold turkey, it was hard especially as my OH smokes around 20 a day. Had the worst withdrawal symptoms which made me turn to chocolate haha

I'm doing OK I think, was about 10 a day at my worst, but I did a gradual quit. No withdrawal symptoms really, though chocolate is my answer to everything lol. have you had your medical yet, I'm going tomorrow :-)

Re: Still smoking aaagghhhh
yeah, i had it yesterday. they did my height, weight, bmi, mrsa, general health etc and also needed bloods but they wanted them within 7 days of op so am having them done first thing on the day. Probably means I won't be first on the list though which I really wanted to be :'(
