to be honest i do use bio oil and palmers and always have done but they never work for me, never done anything to help me with stretch marks/scars etc but im same as you and would like to try something else but when i ask people this is always what they recommend lol

i lost faith in this sort of stuff as i smothered myself in it both pregnancies and got stretch marks anyway lol my stomach grew so much in the last couple of weeks so no amount of creams were gna stop them bad boys! xx

Bio oil or coco butter? Empty Re: Bio oil or coco butter?

Post by georgie88 12th June 2009, 3:56 pm

cakey_baby, i had my 10 day post op check on monday and my surgeon gave me a sample of the kelo-cote silicone gel. I bought a 15g tube from the clinic where i had my op for £29, my ps said this is enough to last for 90 days (twice daily applications) by which time the scars should have improved sufficiently not to have to use it anymore. Think it's £90 for the 60g tube but you only have to apply a really thin layer otherwise it won't dry properly so you should only have to buy one 15g small tube. At £29, i thought this was worthwhile based upon the reccomendation of my ps and the fact i paid nearly £4000 for the surgery in the first place!

Can't comment on the gel itself as i've only been using it for a few days, em_stevo seems to think it works though.

Are there any particular brands of coco butter that you would recommend? I know the body shop sell it, wondered if there were any other equally as good but cheaper brands?

As Georgie88 Says it is worth buying and you only need a tiny ammount as em_stevo has seen results. Personally I got the Dermatix, different brand and it does help to soften and fade incisions. Mine have always been smooth, but, it has faded the redness. I got mine from e.bay 60gramm tube I think I paid £30.00.

I also bought the silicone gel sheets 'Mepiform' again more expensive, which were also good.. there are different brands. I would say worth the money in long term. Only when incisions are fully healed.

I also use bio-oil to moisturise and pure Rosehip oil is also good and clinically proven for scar healing and general skin rejuniviation. Good Luckxxxxxxx

I think the 'Palmers' is the one the girls use. I believe they also do one for stretch marks. Think it is reasonably priced. xx

I use the Palmers cocoa butter for dehydrated skin and stretch marks as my skin is really flaky due to being stretched. I use it after a shower and I also use bio oil (not on my scars yet but I will) I just put it on my boobs before I go to bed to help prevent stretch marks.

I am nearly 3 weeks post op..was interested in all that has been written but when would you start to use oil/gels/lotions to improve your scars? I thought it would be around the 6 week mark but reading these some of you seem to using them as soon as 2weeks....

Bio oil or coco butter? Empty Palmers

Post by rosannamay 13th June 2009, 11:09 am

Boots definitely sell it and i'd expect most supermarkets do too!

You can get it really cheap from places like Savers. It's great, makes your skin really soft and smells lovely - i'd highly recommend it! xxx

I got the palmers from boots, I'm sure I've seen it most places. It's in a white bottle you can get an unsented one now, but I love the smell of it.
