My 1 week follow up with nurse.
So I had my 1 week appointment with the nurse yesterday and all seems really good.
She had a little feel and said they are already quite soft and are dropping nicely. She removed the padding from the stitches and they look really neat. I'm able to shower now, was advised not to rub them but to use a blow dryer on the scar area to ensure its nice and dry before putting a new plaster back on.
I did notice however that one of the scars is about 1 cm higher than the other? She said that this is quite common and it may be because the implant is slightly lower. Will the scars stay the way they are now or will they appear to move as my boobs drop - confused
Am going back next week, should be able to take the strap off then too and stop sleeping upright. Nurse said that at 4 weeks I will be able to massage them with bio oil and she will show me how to do this. I thought they shouldn't be massaged as they were textured implants, but she said they would have bonded by then and massage will help them to drop. Also said that at 4 weeks I should start introducing other bra's, even underwired, just for a few hours a day at first , to make the muscle get used to them and to help the boobs drop.
Am really happy but a bit shocked about introducing other bra's so soon but sure she knows what she is doing.

When your nurse mentioned massage, are you sure she didn't mean starting to massage your scars?
Massage really isn't necessary at all for textured implants. At just 4 weeks post-op even if your boobs were still sat high this would be completely normal at that stage in recovery, so I'm confused myself in why she would be suggesting this unless she had a specific reason for you to be massaging such as signs of early CC (which isn't the problem in your case) or stubborn boobs that need help to drop, but like I said, at just 4 weeks your boobs wouldn't be stubborn. I'd personally wait until you see your surgeon at your 6 week post-op appointment on that one hun. Many nurses, especially from the commercial clinics use nurses from a bank. These nurses are trained in general nursing and not specially in plastic surgery. So as her advise doesn't coincide with the advice normally given for textured implants unless you actually head this from your surgeon I'd leave well alone hun or request to see your surgeon and 4 weeks and get their advise.
Having one scar slightly higher than the other is very normal babe, the higher scar would most likely be on the boob that is sat slightly higher than other so as it drops down a little more the scar will move down into the breast crease to match the other. That's nothing to worry about babe.
Glad all is going so well though hun. Xx

Re: My 1 week follow up with nurse.
good for you hun! Showering is the best feeling again after waiting so long! I got pretty much the same after care advice as you, except I waited 2weeks instead of one. This massage thing has gotton me all confused though. I was also told to massage a little bit every day and have textured implants? I've been onto the clinic and wasn't able to speak with my surgeon but was advised again to continue with the massage as the nurse instructed?? And she definitely meant the boobs not the scars as she showed me to push the outside for a few seconds? Not sure what to do now really?xxx

Re: My 1 week follow up with nurse.
Thanks Cookie, She apparently is a specialist nurse, I know this as I have to have a stitch removed in a few days and she said I could come back and get it done with the 'ordinary' nurse. She def said to massage boobs as I questioned her about it. Well her words were 'stroke them with palms of the hand in downwards movements, from top to nipples and slightly to the sides but not underneath, to encourage them to drop. For the scars she said use little gentle circular movements with fingers.
What do you think about the bra thing, have you heard this before?

Hi Noellepig, it's so confusing isn't it when you get lots of different advice going around?
Was you told the same thing about the bra's ?

Re: My 1 week follow up with nurse.
Getting the all clear for wires is common babe so you must be healing well. All the more confusing why your nurse should be encouraging massage if you are healing well though
Re: My 1 week follow up with nurse.
Ya, I was told pretty much the same thing. Only difference is I was told to introduce non wired bras first and that I'd have to wait either 12weeks or at least untill I meet my surgeon at 6weeks post op before I can wear wires.
Ya, I'm so confused about massage! I suppose we should just do as our nurses said as there must be a reason?? I was told the same way to massage as you described aswell, just I'm to do the sides but not the top?xxx

Re: My 1 week follow up with nurse.
im seeing my surgeon again in 2 and a bit weeks as my implants are still sitting high and im worried about it and the surgeon has agreed that they are sitting a little high, we have talked about a compression band and massaging but i have not to anything until i see him again as he really is hoping that we do not need to intervene and let the implants do their thing
I can still not see a diff so i do think that something is going to have to be done, but i think he said he prefers going with the band before massaging as i have textured implants,
can you see your surgeon again or email him just to do double check
how great is it that you can shower!!! xx

Re: My 1 week follow up with nurse.
I was given the compression band from day 1, and had been wearing it for 2weeks before she showed the massage? My surgeon told me to keep wearing that until I meet him at the 6week checkup and the nurse has said the same, even with the massage to keep wearing it.
Maybe we were told to massage to help the implants settle in their final position? strange though as they are textured aswell! Wish it was just simple and everyone did the same and that was it lol! xx

Re: My 1 week follow up with nurse.
I still have another week in the band and 3 weeks until the massage so have time to make a few phone calls. I have to go back next week anyway so will double check then.
Tink did you have unders or overs? Think they normally use the band on unders but not too sure.

Re: My 1 week follow up with nurse.
He wasn't in my clinic when I rang, he's only in Ireland every few weeks, and the nurse was pretty adamant so I didn't question her... I should insist in speaking with him personally really? Especially with all the confusion, I might just email him or the hospital to bypass the nurse altogether?xx
