Post Op, wound dressing x1 week??
Hi There,
After my one week wound check the nurse I saw was pleased and has removed the waterproof dressings and simply cleaned them and I now have just surgical tape over the scars (not completely healed yet, some dry blood still).
Is this usual? I've been told to remove the tape when it's wet in the shower, but it seems very sticky and harsh?
Having said that, i do seem to be healing well and it is more comfortable than the previous dressings.
The scars are a bit hard, but I guess this is normal too??
Any advice or reassurance would be great! Thanks

Welcome to Breast Buddies
Its completely normal Shirley. Removing the steri-strips in the shower after they're wet just makes them come away easier for you.
When showering you're best not to use anything scented on them, like soap or shower gel. Allowing the water to just run over them is more than enough to keep them clean lovely. After showing its so important to keep them dry. So 'dab' the wounds first, never rub hun, then use your hairdryer on a cool setting to gently blow the incisions dry.
Don't worry about the scars being hard either, this too is very normal. After about 6 weeks you'll be told you can then start to massage your scars, its then that with massage you can help to break down the scar tissue which is hard and they'll heal to a fine, flat, pale line that will be hardly visible hun. Xx

Re: Post Op, wound dressing x1 week??
Thank you!
One more question, I had been sleeping propped up with a couple of pillows . I've tried going back to one pillow last night, and sleeping on my side but woke up with really achy boobs and arm pits! I'm guessing this is just because it's all new and settling inn still. Is there any advice on how long it's best to sleep on your back and propped up? Feel such an un-natural way to sleep!
Thanks for your advice!

I'd stay propped up at least for another week hun. The reason you're advised to sleep propped up is to help your body drain the fluid and disperse naturally. Its achy when you try to side sleep just now because its your body's way of telling you its just not ready.
Give it another week and then try again hun. Use your pillows to help cushion your boobs so there's no pressure on them. A pair if soft bed socks or a soft rolled flannel placed between your boobs helps too to stop the top boob flopping onto the bottom and keeping it stable so it will be more comfortable.
I know its hard but its best for your recovery to give it at least 2 weeks hun. Use a hot water bottle in the small of your back if you need to and a pillow under your knees helps to take the pressure off your back. If you have a V-pillow drawing it around yourself so you have 'arm rests' helps lots too  xx
