I have a question regards the pain and discomfort that you feel about week after the op.

I'm having my BA (overs) on Sunday 16th Feb. It's my 30th the following week and my close friends would like to go out for a celebratory meal exactly one week after my op…
It would be just friends getting together over a meal- I'm not a party animal at the best of times  shrug  Tbh I have no idea how I may be feeling post op and it would be great to catch up with everyone to celebrate my birthday. But part of me is apprehensive about whether I would be able to manage in terms of pain and whether I can have a glass of champers…. Everyone except 1 couple that would be at the meal know that I've had the op (it's not a phone conversation and because they don't live that close I haven't seen them).

I know I will be missing the shower but sponge baths and baby wipes will have to do in the run up to going out with friends. I won't get my dressings off and able to shower until Monday 24 Feb…

Any views and advice is greatly appreciated xx

I feel pretty good.
I must say though, I still feel like I tire easily, Today was the first day I went into town for a coffee with Hubby.

I think It is so hard to say how you will feel as we are all different. I think a small sat down meal may be ok but I certainly would not want to be partying.

Friends of ours want to go for an Italian soon, I must be honest and say I have put it off til the first week in Feb,
Just to be sure I feel ok.

Hope that helps, just my experience so far hun

Well, I felt ok a week after and had guests that didn't know  come over and I did enjoy 2 glasses of wine! My worst weeks were week 2 and 3 for discomfort and it was then I felt less inclined to socialise.

Everyone is different, but 1 week after surgery is very early I think to be out and socialising.... Personally I would put if off for another week, and as your friends will know, they will understand.

On the other hand, it is just dinner, and with nearly all your friends knowing, at least they will be aware of the restrictions on you for not drinking and dancing!!

Not very helpful really was I?!?!

I'm one week post op today too. I feel more human (although have got a cold now) but not sure i would be up for a meal out, wouldn't be able to do my hair or feel like wearing nice clothes.

In the week after the op that you can't wash (and for some ladies they make you go longer) you also can't wash your hair properly, wear clothes that go over your head, or feel really that clean. The smell of hospital lingers for ages!

Your mobility is somewhat restricted too, so everything takes longer. Even cutting up your food lol.

It is worth it though! Just being honest with how it's affected me :)

So, if I were you perhaps delay the meal and have it the following weekend? Have a quiet actual bday and then meal with with friends after?

hey kdee,

it really is hard to say as every body is affected differently and it just depends on how your body takes things.

i had unders which is said to be more sore, but i went out to the cinema with my sister on day 4 post op (10mins walk each way). i did still rest a lot during the days but during week 2 i went out for dinners with my dad who was then looking after me, and i was more than able to do that.

i would say if you can, can you make it a bit of a short notice thing, if you feel up to it, then confirm, and otherwise put it off for a week?

i was back on the tube during week 2 post op, just taking things easy. and it is just a sit down dinner, so i would be inclined to say you could well be fine, but best thing to do would be to just see how you feel on the day.

I personally wouldn't 'book' anything.... Its said many times that having overs is an easier recovery than partials, but I'm afraid this isn't what we see here. We've seen women with partials do great very early, same with overs. We've seen women struggle with partials up to two weeks, same with overs... It just depends on the woman and how her body reacts to the surgery.

There is no definitive answer hun.

And as I say to everyone post-op it really is best to just take your recovery one day at a time. Don't put pressure yourself, or compare yourself... Just be yourself and deal with what you have to on 'that' day.

If you're able to then play it by ear, then if you feel good then yeah, you may manage a sit down meal, but if not... You're not letting anyone down xx

Hi Hun, I was 1 week post op yesterday, I went out yesterday for an hour and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I've Ben stuck in a warm hose for a week, but when I went out in the cold weather, made my boobs really hurt! Was really uncomfortable! An I still can't wash my hair, or really dress myself in anything that doesn't button up on the front. Also like krizoo, I tire really easily. I had ba and uplift which may be why I'm slower to recover, so you may find that your ok, but I wouldn't want to go out celebrating at this point xxx

Also as they are your friends why don't u askif it can be a few glasses of wine and a meal at one of your friends houses? Maybe u wouldn't feel under pressure then.  Post op it's not just the physical aches and pains,  be prepared to be a little emotional too,  I was fragile physically and emotionally esp as I hate feeling useless and vulnerable.

I felt awful at one week post op, there's no way I could have sat for a meal. However you may feel ok.

It really is just dependant on you.

As cookie says play it by ear and maybe instead of the meal out for a small gathering at yours for a takeaway.
That way you'll be I. The comfort of your own home, no need to get dressed if you don't feel like it (a onesie or loungewear is perfectly acceptable!)

As for drinking you will still be on meds so won't be advisable Hun x
