Re: March Buddies
I stopped first on 20th Feb. Used patches and a sky cig. Did three days without a cig then fell over on the weekend (family ones).
Got down to 2 or 3 a day but bought a packet yesterday.
Got a script for Champix today as I don't have a lot of time left.
Really disappointed with myself, went 72 hours without after 28 years and then smoked.
I think we will be ok as long as we abstain for at least 3/4 days before to get the carbon monoxide out of our systems. Mad though isn't it, the one thing you need is a smoke when you're stressed.

I was taking champix but at my preop they told me not to take any medication even herbal pills 2 weeks before so stopped. Im struggling without the pills. Have you been told champix is okay to take? Well done on cutting down tho. After so many years that's great. X x

I used the electronic ciggy to quit!! It was great and so easy... Some of the company's even do the zero nicotine cartridges. X

Re: March Buddies
i was only told 48 hours before not to smoke, but I know a few people who have smoked right up until an hour before the op and been fine. I will keep trying to cut down and use my electric ciggy before hand if I need to.
I've been under GA before and smoked as wasn't told to stop - I assume thats the reason they say not to smoke?

Re: March Buddies
yah it's to do with the anesthetic but also you're more likely to get an infection post op if you smoke. which i guess is why my surgeon wants to me quit for so long after as well :( boo. Oh well, guess we've each just gota do what our own surgeon has told us :)

Re: March Buddies
I only got the Champix today so I am waiting to see on Monday if they tell me to stop taking it. The DR seemed ok with it and I had to fight for the prescription.
Funny thing is that when I have a couple of fags now, I feel like its Sunday morning after a heavy drinking and smoking session. It doesn't take long for your body to adjust to less poison does it x

Re: March Buddies
It took bout half an hour, had to give a ursine sample n they did my height, weight, blood pressure. Went through a general health questionnaire and the nurse talked me through the day of the op & some post op care. Was meant to have bloods but they like to do them within 7 days prior to op so I'm having them done on the day. X

Re: March Buddies
I had my pre op today but didnt consist as the same things as you. No blood or urine samples taken. Not sure why you need to give a urine sample but I was expecting to give my blood, but she said they didnt need to because its not major surgery, do you think I should be concenered? xnewboobz wrote:It took bout half an hour, had to give a ursine sample n they did my height, weight, blood pressure. Re: March Buddies
Emma, only thing I had pre-op was an MRSA swab. Did urine sample and preg test on the day of surgery and didn't take any blood from me so I wouldn't worry too much xx
