Got bored after the 1st paragraph...
Flamin Americans, they can create a fuss over the slightest thing. Do they ever leave the house I wonder??
That's why I'm not particularly bothered if my implants are FDA recommended or not. It's just a paper exercise to make sure there are no law suits flying about.

Life is a risk in itself. Driving a car, going on a plane, crossing the road, these all have potential fatal risks, but we all still do them.
I think it is someone try to scare you.
As for the silicon issue, silicon is present in hair gels, makeup, etc but we all use these products every day of our life.
Think sometimes you have to take a bit of a risk, otherwise you would just sit indoors too afraid to go out incase 'what if' happens.

Men have been having silicone testicle implants for fourty years, and they never seem to present these symptoms. Same with hip replacements.

Maybe its not so much silicone implants but the size of the humungous implants they get in the US that gives them problems.

Re: girls what do u think on this? Its kind of worrying
Its nothing I didnt know to be honest, I dont think shes trying to scare anyone I think shes trying to inform people of what shes found, as she was scared and shocked, as I was when I found the same sort of info.
I think you just have to come to terms with the fact that implants dont last a lifetime and consider the potential risks and decide if its still worth it, for me, its a risk im willing to take.
Im also aware of all the chemicals they contain but to be honest most makeup we put on our faces everyday are filled with potentially toxic chemicals, which are absorbed into our blood stream. Yes those chemicals can be toxic in extremely high quantities but not by the amount we use them for and I think the same gos for the implants.
Cohesive implants, if ruptured are unlikly to leak gel into your blood stream, and more likely to stay in the capsule as its so cohesive, unlike older implants.
While I think its good to be aware of the problems, its also a good idea to have a little persepective. There is no proof to link implants to a lot of the autoimmune problems reported, and if implants were truely that bad I dont beleive they would still be around, as they have been around for a long time now.
Thousands of women are happy with their boob jobs but they dont go on about it, they just get on with ther lives, what Im trying to say is you only ever hear the bad storys if you look for them, but theres plenty of happy stories too as we have all seen on this forum.

Re: girls what do u think on this? Its kind of worrying
I replied to that and thought it was ridiculous.... u take risks everyday, u breath in toxins in the air, you put toxins in your body from make-up, alcohol, smoking...
She is trying to say women are stupid putting them into their bodies just to get big boobs.. which is wrong for many of us who have deformed breasts from breast feeding etc..
She is spouting scare moungering nonsense...implants have been around for over 30 years anyone ever died from what is contained inside them??
And also we only have one body and one life, enjoy it all while we still can!!

The safety of silicon implants was the first thing I researched when I started considering a BA.
An Independent Review Group's research and conclusions (UK based) were the final 'okay' for me to be happy to go ahead.
They reached the following conclusions:

An Independent Review Group's research and conclusions (UK based) were the final 'okay' for me to be happy to go ahead.
They reached the following conclusions:
- There is no histopathological or conclusive immunological evidence for an abnormal immune response to silicone from breast implants in tissue.
- There is no epidemiological evidence for any link between silicone gel breast implants and any established connective tissue disease. If there is a risk of connective tissue disease, it is too small to be quantified. The IRG cannot justify recommending further epidemiological studies to investigate this hypothesis.
- Good evidence for the existence of atypical connective tissue disease or undefined conditions, such as ‘silicone poisoning’ is lacking. It is possible that other conditions such as low grade chronic infection may account for some of the non-specific illnesses noted in some women with silicone gel breast implants.
- The overall biological response to silicone is consistent with conventional forms of response to foreign materials, rather than an unusual toxic reaction.
- There is no evidence that children of women with breast implants are at increased risk of connective tissue disease.
- The IRG recognised that there were issues such as the precise incidence of rupture where the scientific data were incomplete so that rigorous conclusions could not be drawn.

I heard something about this before my ba, but I didn't listen to it as it sounded a bit far-fetched.
I'm not going to worry - I've never felt so good in my whole life so it's risk I'm prepared to take!

Re: girls what do u think on this? Its kind of worrying
I look at it this way, why worry about something so "what if?"? I'm sure the benefits of raised self-confidence and happiness far outweigh the risk that some of the things that lady reports "could" happen. There are so may girls on here who have had the op and most have been problem free, and the ones who have had problems have been nothing to do with silicone poisoning. It really does sound like scare-mongering to me and I myself am not going to worry.

silicone is also used in many other surgical devices that are inplanted in someones body, but if never heard of any problems caused by it.
