nervous about surgery
hi all up til 2 years ago I was fine with DRs and hospitals needles etc then i had my daughter 11 weeks early by c section, it was all planned and all was going well til my spinal block wore off and I felt EVERYTHING, they quickly got my husband out of there and gave me a GA. My recovery from the section was fine I had a 5 year old at home and my daughter i just had stayed in NICU for 10 weeks so on day 4 I went home and was doing the school run and hen bus to do Ellies cares in hospital but the whole operation has left me with a huge fear of hospitals so I think that im going to freak when it comes to going to theatre
is there anyone feels like this and if so how did yoi keep calm
thanks all

Re: nervous about surgery
I've just bumped a thread called pre-BA jitters lovely. You're definitely not alone Tinkerbell. Many of us get the jitters on the run to our surgeries babe.
You certainly went through a horrific time though and your fear is not surprising hun. I can only assure you that the hospital staff will take very good care of you and will do all they can to settle any nerves for you. You'll have a wonderful team and you'll meet them all before going into theatre and you'll be given the opportunity to discuss all your fears with them. You honestly will have the best of care.
Don't worry xx

Re: nervous about surgery
I'm not really sure what you mean by paperwork hun?
If you mean after surgery hun, depending on the clinic you may get some post-op care instructions, along with an emergency number for you to call through to the hospital and your implant details(some clinics keep these, some post them out later) xx

Re: nervous about surgery
You'll be down and it's the 'fear of the unknown rather than the operation itself . And after you will wonder why you were worrying,!
Think of all the positives and focus on them rather than the negatives. It really is a case of mind over matter and you will have loads of support and you will be fine I promise!
The staff in hospitals doing Bas are fantastic they have ladies with nerves all the time and they'll friendly and helpful and caring.
If you really have a fear or phobia though I can recommend a session of hypnotherapy . It really does work at calming you down and putting things in perspective. You don't go to sleep or anything it's just positive reinforcement with your eyes closed. ! Xx

Re: nervous about surgery
Hi tinkerbell - along the same lines as mrsball and hypnotherapy, there is also a lot you can do in terms of meditation and deep breathing exercises to help you relax (plenty of info on the internet and you can also download relaxing music/sounds) x

Re: nervous about surgery
You've had a bad experience so it's natural to have fears but try and remember that was then and this is now. A BA is going to have an amazing impact on your life, try and think about the positive side to it and remember you've been through a far more painful experience and survived... You'll be more than fine!:) x

Re: nervous about surgery
It is so normal to feel scared like this prior to any surgery, especially when you've had to go through what you had in the past. I have recently just had my BA, and I have to say that walking to the theatre and laying on the surgery table was so terrifying for me that I almost started crying. Had I not paid all that money I might've just gotten up and ran. But then they put the mask over your face and you fall asleep, and then as instantly as you went to sleep you're woken up it feels like. and it's all done. I honestly laughed to myself when I realized what I had worked it up to be in my head since it was nothing like that at all. I'm so happy I got it done and it will definitely change your life for the positive. Everyone on here is great to talk to and will help you along the way, which really helps. xxx
