Post BA Housework!
Sorry for yet another thread ladies!!! Is it ok to post 3 in one day?
In any case I'm really worried about returning to work next week as a carer... although I don't deliver personal care (involving lifting and handling), some clients do require a degree of house work including hoovering. The nurse at Transform said hoovering is fine after 2 weeks and yet on several posts here I've read not to do such things for 6 weeks.
I'm self-employed so can't easily take time off sick, but obviously don't want to put my health at risk. My lovely oh is being great at home so I can take things easy there for as long as need be, and I also don't have kids... (I take my hat off to all you mums who negotiate their recovery with kids in tow!!!).
I'd be so grateful for your thoughts and/or personal experiences.
XXXXX

Re: Post BA Housework!
Well I I posted about housework the other day, and hoovering , lifting, scrubbing floors, I guess lifting laundry, carrying shopping a no no for 6 weeks! I have done too much sometimes, nearly 3 weeks post op and in pain, because I am probably doing too much ! Don't risk it x and then worry x my nurse said 6 weeks about hoovering. To be honest I have drove , doing school run and I am not comfortable, stretching a no no . Xxx

Things like hoovering are not really meant to be done for 6 weeks hunny. It's just you use a lot of chest muscle pushing and pulling and they're not the lightest of things. Especially as you've had unders it takes a little bit longer and any over use of chest muscle will result in a bit of discomfort and maybe a bit of will and just setting back your recovery.
I'm 3 weeks at the momet And do a bit of light cleaning but couldn't contemplate hoovering just yet.

Re: Post BA Housework!
Can you speak to your employer lovedove about not doing anything that's going to put pressure on the upper body for the 6 weeks period?
You're the first I've actually heard of not to be told no pushing, pulling or lifting for 6 weeks to be honest hun.
If you have a sympathetic employer maybe they could make these things an exception to you for the first 6 weeks.
On the other hand though... If my our clinic nurse says 'you're' fine then as long as you're comfortable you should have nothing to worry about hun. Maybe just double check with your 'surgeon' though just to be sure? Xx'

Thanks for your input, as ever ladies, it's really helpful. I have a 2nd po appt with the nurse on Tuesday to have my dressings removed so will talk to her about it then... Not due back at work till Thurs, so there should be time to ask the surgeon too :)
I'm also gonna experiment with using different muscle groups for different household tasks, e.g. perhaps using my body weight to push the hoover rather than using a push/pull motion??? Any 'useful' findings I will post here!
