Possible new job and surgery dilemma Empty Possible new job and surgery dilemma

Post by Mssaprl9 14th July 2012, 4:57 pm

Ok, so I had an interview yesterday for a job that sounds wonderful and I feel like the interview went well. Only thing is my BA is scheduled for July 24th. IF I get this job I would need 3weeks off to recover from my surgery since this is a somewhat strenuous job. (X-ray tech) I did not say anything about it during the interview, but If I get the job what is the best way to go about this? Should I just tell them the truth and that I wouldn't be able to start for three weeks out? I'm wondering if they would be ok with this. Has anyone else been in this situation? I am so excited for my boobies but really want this job too!
Thanks girls!! :)))

My daughter started a new job as the new year started and had already booked a 3 week holiday prior to going to the interview, she upfront and honest and told them she had the holiday already booked, she got the job and all is well.

It's up to you whether or not you want to disclose your BA, I'd personally just tell them you've booked a holiday and would need the dates required for that should you be lucky and get the job. You should barring any complications be just fine at 3 weeks post-op hun and good luck! Really hope you get the job fingers crossed xx

Thank you cookie, this is so helpful! Im wondering if I should just tell them I'm having surgery but not mention what it's for? Or just say it's a 3 week holiday? Did your daughter mention her holiday at the interview or AFTER she got the job?

She told them at the interview Mssaprl. She asked the starting date, then told them her holidays dates so they could have them noted should she get the job. She was actually called in for a second interview and induction 2 days later and was called to say she had the job before the interviews had even ended! So maybe honesty is the best policy? shrug I dunno if I'd say I was having elective surgery though, some people are great and sympathetic about things like this, others can be completely against it and with not knowing the person interviewing you, you don't know either way what they'd think, so I'd personally air on the side of cation with that one, but you must do what feels right for you hun. xx
