When did you start wearing underwires?
I'm 6 weeks PO on Saturday, which I was told at the hospital I'd have to wear sports bras for 6 weeks.
I have an appointment with the nurse on Wednesday but I won't see my surgeon until 3 months PO! Is this normal? And will I have to wait until I see Mr Clarke until I can wear bras or will the nurse be able to give me the ok?
X

Yeah until PS gives ok for underwire. You can wear non-wire bras before that and some nice ones out these days. xxx

Re: When did you start wearing underwires?
I know a few girls on here once mentioned that they bought new pretty bras and just took the wire out! So I think that's a really good idea if you wanna have a night off from the sports bras peaking out or whatever if you haven't been given the okay for underwires!

Re: When did you start wearing underwires?
I saw my PS at 5 weeks and he said non wired from 6 weeks, underwired from 8 but each surgeon has different recommendations. I met a girl who went with the same surgeon as me and she was told 6 months - so it must be dependant on the person and specifics of the op.
After a few months of sports bras wearing underwires again takes some getting used to.

Re: When did you start wearing underwires?
Boooo! I was all mentally prepared for underwires! Luckily at my job we wear anything because it's messy work so most of the time it won't matter! Topshop sell gorgeous none wired ones so I should be ok!
Do you find they still fit comfortably/supportive without wire? I'd ask if they keep a good shape but as they're fake I don't think I'll worry about that haha x

Re: When did you start wearing underwires?
If you've been advised you can wear wires by your surgeon at 6 weeks post-op then your nurse at the clinic will be able to give you the all clear when you go for a check-up lovely. So you may well be in wires from when you see her.
I was 12 weeks post-op, but I was told this from the beginning of my surgery. When I could wear wires, I found they really hurt and at first couldn't wear them for long periods throughout the day, so I had to build uo the time wearing them and it took a couple of months before I was able to wear wired bras for a whole day.
I still don't find them the most comfortable things to wear and will often dog out the old sportsbra I once despised but now gives me so much comfort, I love it! LOL. xx

Re: When did you start wearing underwires?
How weird! I met my Mums friend and she told me that even 5 years PO she wore her sports bra all of the time for work etc unless she was going out anywhere and wearing something nice... I was like you whaaaat! But I guess if it's uncomfortable!
Is it because you can still feel it rub your incisions or what to make it uncomfortable? X

Re: When did you start wearing underwires?
At first they felt uncomfortable on my incisions, yes, but I just padded that out with panty liners, my actual boobs also ached a lot too when I first wore wires for a long time, which was why I had to ease myself into them.
But 5 years post-op and I still prefer the support and comfort of a sportsbra rather than a wired bra. I think maybe its due to not being used to the weight of having larger breasts and that the sportsbra holds that all safe and secure, but balcony bras, deep plunge bras etc, they all shift your breasts into an unnatural position and you feel fine when you're out, but as soon as I get home, I just want the wires off and sports bra on, kinda putting my boobs back were they should be... safe and secure lol.

Re: When did you start wearing underwires?
I also went with Transform and when I had my first post op check up with the nurse at 6 weeks she ok'd me treating my boobs as normal and wearing underwire. I did wear underwire from 6 weeks and I had to build up the time wearing a bra until it was comfortable. I also had to wait until 3 months post op to see my surgeon, it seems pretty standard with Transform
Re: When did you start wearing underwires?
I am the opposite, I dont like sports bras at all, I wear wires all the time, I like the T shirt bras for everyday use though and I wouldn't wear a plunge bra to work everyday. I've even fallen asleep in my wired T shirt bras cause they're so comfy.
Re: When did you start wearing underwires?
Thanks for the info about Transform misf, hopefully they'll say the same to me!
As a pre op I would always whip my bra off when I got home, I didn't really need the support and it felt so much more comfortable! I imagine I'll come home and whip a sports bra on instead in the future! I can't wait to have pretty underwear though... It will be a first to not want to cry in Debenhams changing room... Hopefully not anyway haha X

It was rubbish wasn't it... I'd go in and see soo many and think wow I want to wear that but it would have to A) be filled with a lot of gel and B) fit both as much as possible..... I had ONE Atlantis one that I would wear day in day out (revolting I know) but I couldn't face myself to ever go! I'd put my iPhone down my small side to fill it out too, as I rarely wear jeans I do miss the sneaky pocket There's just too much in my sports bra to put it in that
Bring on the bras! X

Re: When did you start wearing underwires?
I don't really wear my sports bras anymore, I like wearing plunge bras, and also wearing nothing to bed, I've never really had a problem moving to wires.

Re: When did you start wearing underwires?
Trust me, you probs wont wanna wear them once you're into them! I didnt want to, I was too comfy in my sports bra haha! I could only wear them for short periods at a time in the early days.. I kinda phased them in haha!x

Re: When did you start wearing underwires?
My PS told me today I should be okay for underwires from 6 weeks, provided I feel comfortable.
As cookie says just go with advice of your clinic/PS Alice. Its interesting to find out on here, the total variations on post op info, dependent on where you get them done.....its individualised care though I guess, so your surgeon will know whats best for you and your girlies!!
Happy bra shopping when it comes!!! xx
