Microdermals/piercings...what needs to be removed?
As a fairly heavily pierced person I would like to know if anyone has had a BA who has
microdermals aka dermal anchors...and if they have to be removed for op?
I have had mixed/confused messages from the "sales pitch" consults and person you speak to, to arrange consult; generally people don't seem to know a lot on the matter!
(microdermals are like a stud embedded in the skin, like a piercing but only one point of entry and therefore permanent)
I appreciate that different surgeons will have different outlooks but just wondered if anyone had any info at all!?
(hoping not as I have £450 worth of them in me!!!)

Microdermals isn't a word I hear everyday so I remembered a post we had from a while ago
You can read the thread [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Just incase you miss the response from James McDiarmid our BAAPs reg surgeon who helped out here for a while I'll quote it here for you sweetness:

I can completely understand your desire to not have to remove them, they look like they'd be a fiddle to replace.
I
can't see why you couldn't just remove the ones in the breast area and
leave the ones elsewhere. I would imagine you would have to sign a
disclaimer that would absolve the team from any blame should you come to
any harm because they were not removed.
Good luck with your surgery,
JM

I wondered about this too. I've had my micro dermal out as it was rejecting and was gonna have it replaced but I was thinking about waiting coz it feels like such a let down when you've gone through all of that. I know I'll probably have to take my nip Piercings out as they'll get a right battering otherwise won't they.

OOh lovely Cookie thanks love! That was my piercer's opinion too to be honest.
Ha yeh me too Katyflo...my piercer said one of his customer's had a BA and the surgeon said she could leave hers in... had her nipples moved and the piercing was then wonky ha think I'll just get mine re-done thanks! ha
Where was your dermal, ur chest?

Re: Microdermals/piercings...what needs to be removed?
It was in the back of my neck. My boyfriend was so drunk round Christmas he wouldn't stop hugging me and it set it growing wonky, I'd had it a year and a half! My nips have never properly healed so I think I'd rather take them out coz I bet all the stretching will mess them about and I'll have enough discomfort to worry about. I won't like having them done again tho, they were definitely my most painful piercing. My mate had to force me to have my 2nd one done coz I lost my bottle.

Be sure to make your own surgeon aware of the piercings at your consultation though babe, just so they know what's where and can advise the anesthetist also in prep for your surgery. xx

God I'd never go for a christina, it's got loads to go through hasn't it. I got a vch and that was nothing to heal. But nips I've had at least two years and theyre still tender and get a bit crusty.

Ha yeh still didn't swear or shout but jeez it was bad. Ah yeh I have an HCH and the same, healed in a week! Had my navel done 5x so it's like a star and that was my worst healer, replaced with dermals on the end. Ur nape scarred badly hun? My wrist I've had three taken out and they've scarred really bad which makes me a little worried for my BA...

Re: Microdermals/piercings...what needs to be removed?
I thought it would as generally my scars are pretty bad healers, I've got one on my hip that's about 6 inches long and 13years old and it's still a but funny lookin, but my neck is alright really. I went to have it looked at as I wanted two either side of it after about a month of it being out, and she said she wasn't happy to do it yet as it would interfere with the scar cells there, but after a month of massaging with some kinda body butter it should be completely flat. Your tummy star sounds beaut!

Re: Microdermals/piercings...what needs to be removed?
Speak to your consultant honey as the surgeons/hospitals have different rules.
I was told no piercings in or around the mouth at all. No metal piercings at all as they could cause burns on the skin as they use an electric current to cauterise the skin/veins etc during surgery.
I put a PTFE bar in my navel piercing as it was too new to leave out. They made me sign a form before taping up the piercing.
Oh and no jewellery in nipples as it is the site of the operation.
One surgeon even told me I should leave my nipple piercings out for 2 weeks to give the site time to clear any infections (not that I had any).
I was gutted as my nipple piercing closed up in less than 24hrs despite having had them for 8 years :-( it turns out it was a small sacrifice for boobs I love :-)

Re: Microdermals/piercings...what needs to be removed?
I rang up my PCC and she told me I'd have to remove all of my piercings, my tongue has been done about 6 years but I heard they heal ridiculously fast am I likely to not get it back in? Not that I'd sacrifice my BA for it.. Just curious haha.
I took my industrial piercing out as soon as she told me I'd have to remove it for the op, I had it done over a year ago and it still hurt to sleep on that side... Happy to see the back of it!!x

Re: Microdermals/piercings...what needs to be removed?
I have two dermal anchors in my arm. Make sure you tell your PCC and surgeon beforehand and then remind the nurse, the anesthetist and surgeon on the day. They didn't have an issue with mine, just covered them with a plaster so they wouldn't catch.
I think everyone is different when it comes to piercings healing up. My tongue was fine, but my nose almost healed up and one of my tunnels nearly went down a gauge. As soon as I was mobile I was putting them all back in.
