Quite a few PO girls have posted about how awful it is for them not to be able to wash their hair for a while after the op.

Now, it may be because I've not had massive implants, or maybe because I didn't have GA (I had twilight sedation, which makes recovery much better) but I've been able to wash my hair from Day 2 after the op. I have the advantage of a shower attachment in a stand-up cubicle that I can take off and hand-hold. Initially, it was a little strain to stretch to lift it off and on, but no real problems. I stand outside the cubicle and kneel inside with the shower head held over my hair. And it feels SO much better to have clean hair!

Of course, if you have a handy partner, then he or she should be able to do it for you?

Or a local hairdressers would just do a wash for a small charge.

Having said that, I'm having my stitches out tomorrow and can't wait to just be able to stand under the shower and let all that lovely hot water rain down over my hair and my new boobs!

Good for you. Not everyone has someone to wash their hair and some people aren't up to going to the hairdresser so soon post op though.

Everyone recovers at different rates I guess shrug That's great news for you though DG xx Hug

I was told after all my ops not to lift or stretch my arms to high under any circumstances xx I was told to pretend that my elbows were glued to my sides which meant washing your own hair was impossible due to how you need to position your arms to do it, as was pretty much everything else to be honest xx Screwy

I washed my own hair on day 2 as well. I was all prepped with dry shampoo, and all thinking I'd be grimey... but it wasn't a problem. I had waterproof dressings and was allowed to shower right away, and by bending my arms at the elbow only and dipping my head down to meet my hands I managed... shrug

Glad to hear how well you're doing Devagirl. I still have full tins of dry shampoo leftover as I could also wash my hair myself very early days. I guess it all depends on the person and what they've had done....

Good luck with the stitches, and enjoy that shower! x

Well, I had my stitches out today and all well! I was shown how to massage my new boobs - several times a day. But I can't wait to stand under the shower tomorrow morning!

I washed my hair 2 days post-op and think I did some damage as the pain the next day was intense! I also had to fly home from Brussels alone so maybe I did something to myself then also, even though I asked people to help me with my carry-on bag The hair washing thing post-op 751387. In fact because I couldn't lift my arms for the security pat-down and told them I was wearing a special strap across my chest, they panicked and probably thought I was a terrorist! I had to go into a cubicle and show two female security officers exactly what I meant. Felt like a circus act The hair washing thing post-op 375568

Dry shampoo and a ponytail or baseball cap is MUCH better than a slowed down recovery!!!

I was specifically told I must not lean forward over the bath and try to wash my hair myself. I was told I was allowed to let someone else wash it by leaning backwards over a basin like at the hairdressers.

I have really curly hair so I washed my hair on the morning of surgery and put it in two tight french plaits (like my Mum used to do when I was little). I managed to leave them alone for 5 days before I brushed them out and just twisted my hair up. My dressing came off on day 9 and I got the green light for a full shower. That shower was pure bliss!!!!

I wasnt told this... I did this with the 'help' of my boyfriend. Woke up the next day with very greasy hair, FAIL!

Get your girl friends to come dry shampoo you or wash your hair for you, bf's are rubbish at it.

Oh no Sue! I hope they were sympathetic.

I waited until day 4 before washing mine over the bath. Didn't have any problems.
