Hyper-sensitive nipples - ouch.
A fortnight post-op, and I'm still on Cloud 9 with the look and shape of my new frontage. BUT, in the last couple of days my nipples, and the tissue behind them (but not especially the areolae themselves) have become hyper-sensitive....in a not very nice way.
I was pleased when my nipples took on a bit of shape - in the first days afterwards they just became part of the rounded domes of my boobs, until the internal swelling went down. A friend suggested they reminded her of the bald-headed, chrome-dome Mitchell brothers in Eastenders. Some friend!
But now the faintest touch (when washing, dressing, putting on the car seat belt, etc) is really painful. Sure, some sensitivity is nice (but, living alone, there's no need at the moment!). Now, though, they are hurting as though they have been badly bruised. OK, I know the whole area was knocked about during the surgery, but this extreme sensitivity has only recently begun. I would have expected to notice it earlier if it were related to the surgery.
I've tried searching the forum but most threads and posts seem to concentrate on loss of sensitivity (which, I know, would be terribly distressing, and you have my sympathy), but my problem is in the opposite direction.
Can anyone reassure me that this might be temporary? I'd see my GP but there is a 2 week waiting time for a non-urgent appointment, and I can't classify this as 'urgent'.

This is very common, you either lose sensation or gain hyper sensitivity in that area and it can last anything up to 18monts, BUT i dont think you would get the bruised hurt feeling for that long, it is possibly worth speaking with your ps or nurse to give you peice of mind. Hope this info helps hun x

You're def not alone. I'm 13 days PO,and for the last 3 days they've been mega sensitive! Painfully so.
Putting corn plasters over them can help stop them rubbing on anything. Mine have become really dry since the op,so i'm bio-oiling like mad,but boy does it hurt!

Re: Hyper-sensitive nipples - ouch.
Thanks for the reassurance, especially Spittingfairy on the timing. I have no trouble with friction - basically my boobs stay put in my bra and don't rub on the inside, so I don't need the corn plasters or other tape. And as I'm still at the 24 hours a day sports bra-stage, they are certainly not 'swinging free' and rubbing against, say, a top or jumper. No, it's just the direct touch - even a gentle tap - which hurts.
And isn't Bio-Oil great! I love it. And it's good for healing scar tissue, too. That said, I was advised to use a silicon gel called Dermatix twice a day on the scars (obviously not until the dressings have come off - from about the 10-day stage). A massive £30 a small tube (and my doctor won't prescribe, simply because it is available over the counter) but it comes highly recommended by the nurse and the surgeon. Trouble is, I don't intend to do one side with Dermatix, and leave the other one untreated, just to see how well it works. :=) Besides, if I only did Cagney, then Lacey might feel left out.
Thanks again, ladies, and I'll just persevere with trying not to touch the pointy bits.

Oh No!! and I was sooooo looking forward to a shower :=(
Haven't had one since July.....Nothing to do with personal hygiene! .....only because there wasn't one in the house I moved to when ex and I separated.....just a bath. But the plumbers and tilers are in my house even as I type this and I'm hoping to have my first power shower on Friday night. I'll be VERY careful with those water jets.
Thanks for the warning, Shirtripper. Glad to hear things have improved for you. And the moisturing makes sense - as I said before, I'm mostly using Bio-Oil.
Great name, btw!. Mine's Dawn....Newday is just the (lame) jokey bit.

Re: Hyper-sensitive nipples - ouch.
Quick update. I've spoken with a nurse at the hospital. She just said that it happens to a few women as the nerves settle down after being interfered with during the 'planting ceremony'. (Well, what else do you do with implants?).
I've got to give it a couple of weeks but, if there is no improvement/ reduction in painful (rather than pleasurable) sensitivity by then, I should go back to the surgeon for more specific advice. Good job the weather's cold and I can wear a thick jumper.

Glad you like the turn of phrase, Katy. It just occurred to me while I was writing. After all, it's what you do with ceremonial trees, isn't it? And our best buddies are worth a bit of ceremony, aren't they?
Hope you're having a nice start to your summer...it's perishing here.....makes the pointy bits stick out more, too. Not comfortable!
Have fun! D x

Hey Hun, I am 2weeks PO Tom and for the last few days my nipples have been pretty sensitive, they feel a bit raw when I touch them and kind of makes me cringe! My bra has started to rub on them too :( Hope this passes as soon as poss as it's uncomfortable! Xxx

Sorry to hear you are afflicted, too, Tanya. I think we just have to accept that it happens, and that it will gradually go away.
I don't know whether it made any difference but I slept without my sports bra for the first time last night (3 weeks post-op). Maybe I'm imagining it, but I'm sure that Cagney and Lacey are just that little bit happier this morning (even though they are trussed up again, now that I'm up and about). I'll do the same tonight, too...with luck I might just be getting to the end of the super-sensitive phase. I hope you and all the other girls get there soon, too. Good luck!
