Post-op pain with under?
Hi everyone, I'm a newbie here. I am pretty committed to getting an adominoplasty and a BA done at the same time. I have had two consults so far, third scheduled Oct 18th. I am 44 and breast fed both my kids so I have a huge loss of volume and I thought a lot of sag. I went through a bad divorce this year so I lost 50 pounds. I am 5'6" and currently weigh 116 pounds. I am about a 32B and do not want to go too big, just a full C.
The first PS said that I am just on the borderline where if I use an implant and place it under the muscle, I won't need a lift. He had me try on a few implants in a bra there to ask me what I thought was natural, then he said he knew what size to use and that he would use a low or med profile implant. I liked the cohesive gel implant. He said the incision will have to go under the breast to fit the implant through a larger incision.
The second PS said I will need a little lift and an implant to get the look I want. When he showed me the saline and silicone implants, I could have sworn that the silicone was LIQUID silicone, like the old kind. Is that possible? I thought it was banned? He said he would go through an incision in the nipple, which they extend over the top of the nipple like an oval, then pull the breast up through that (if that makes sense). My nipples are not that big, so if this is a cohesive implant, how can he get it through?
Both said I would have limited pain from the tummy tuck as I do not need any muscular repair, only resection of the skin so that should heal quickly. However, they have both indicated that there is significant initial pain from the muscle stretching when the implants are placed underneath. I do think I will get a better result with them placed underneath as my breast tissue is not very firm, it is so soft and non-fibrous that anything placed directly under it would be obviously visible. So ladies, please, for those who have had under surgeries, what are we talking here? How intense is this pain? How long does it linger? Does it last weeks? Months? I am afraid. Thank you for sharing any information with me.

Re: Post-op pain with under?
Hey Macgirl! Firstly, congratulations on making such a huge decision, congratulations on your weight loss and lastly - you're in the right place to put your mind at ease!
I just had unders, and there are a lot of girls who have on here so I am sure you will get a lot of replies :)
The pain isn't the kind of pain you feel normally, it's not sharp like a cut in your finger and whilst I was aware of my incisions, the 'pain' was really the pressure of the muscle stretching, a your doctor said. It's kind of like having something on your chest which makes it difficult to breathe, you can experience frustration from not being able to perform everyday tasks with your arms, but the pain is completely bearable...
I have never had a baby, broken a bone or anything, I had an operation on my neck at fifteen which whilst I cannot remember the pain, I do remember the week of holding my head on a slight angle so I didn't tear apart the incision - in comparison the breast augmentation was easier because it's more manageable with painkillers and rest.
I really wouldn't let the pain scare you, many girls will say it's a breeze don't worry, etc. And they are right! Naturally, some people experience more pain than others and there is always risks of complications which I understand can be rather painful (haemotoma), but again haven't experienced it myself.
On the day, you feel the drip being put into your arm, you go to sleep, and you wake up finished. It's quite a surreal experience and when you wake up the nurses are on the ball, painkillers straight away, and you keep on top of it. I had one instance where i thought i was ok jsut after surgery and refused painkillers, about ten minutes later my painkillers from earlier wore off and I was in excruciating pain and had to have an injection which completely knocked me out into morpheine wonderland. I guess what I am trying to say is keep on top of yor pain for the first few days, and it is manageable. I took painkillers ten minutes before I got out of bed, I took them to help me go to sleep (probably to the horror of some people, but it was only 4 days I did it) and during the day I took my painkillers like clockwork. They didn't give me an awful lot of their painkillers so I saved their good ones for morning and night time and took Mercyndol during the daytime times.
I did this for four days until I woke up one day and the pain wasn't as bad. I have probably taken six painkillers since day four, and that has been at random times where I felt sore.
I think the most important thing to extract from people is that majority of the girls (including myself) would go through the procedure again tomorrow if we have to - as a 'professional pain dodger' that's a pretty big call!
You forget your pain, but you will never forget what something like this will do to your everyday life. The pro's should far outweight the cons and then you will know you are ready.
Hope this helps,
xx

Re: Post-op pain with under?
Hi Macgirl
I too had unders and to be honest I did not experience any major pain, just discomfort for the first week.
The pain/discomfort is definitely bearable as BKOZ has described and it'll subside before you know it.

Re: Post-op pain with under?
Hi MacGirl,
I too had unders, and I agree with BKOZ, it's a totally bearable pain, mostly feeling like super sore muscles and hard to take a deep breath for the first 2 days or so.
The difference is, I didn't have a lift. I would strongly suggest you get another opinion as to the lift. From what you say, losing weight, having children, you really want to make sure that a simple BA would be enough. There are girls on here who have had a BA only when they were borderline, and they didn't get the look they wanted and ended up getting a lift later. I think it may be cheaper and of course, only one surgery, to do it all at once.
But it's totally up to you - I'd just get more opinions, don't just listen to the doctor who tells you the answer you want!
Huge hugs and good luck!

Re: Post-op pain with under?
Im booked in for unders on 26th December in Thailand. Im so scared! I have booked 2 weeks there do you think that is enough time. The thing I am most scared of is the waking up , then the sudden surge of pain, is that how it happens?
And when you say that its fustrating not bieng able to do everydaythings... when you try do your arm muscles really hurts or do they literally just dont work???
I know it must be hard to try and explain the feelings and stuff but i met a girl the other day who had the exact size/position of implant im having ( 300's under) and she said it was really painful and couldnt use her arms properly for like 2 months!!!!!

Re: Post-op pain with under?
I had 325cc unders done exactly 1week ago now and just wanted to reassure you that there was no rush of pain from waking up after the op! You are very well medicated and it was only a tight discomfort pain I first felt, it wasn't until the day after and so on that it was sorer but then I had plenty of medication to take to help with it and found the whole thing ok! I can now use my arms, brush/wash my own hair ect the only things I can't do just now is lift my 1yr old, push his buggy and drive but the way my healing is going now I think I'll be doing good by next week!

Re: Post-op pain with under?
I'd prob say ( even though I have prob never done any kind of excersise in my life!! ) that the discomfort is probably equal to after doing 1000 press ups and your peck muscles are feeling so tight and sore? Also if you have had a baby then it's like when your breasts are engorged with milk like they are rock solid lol x

Re: Post-op pain with under?
I had my BA 5 weeks ago and I also had 300cc unders, with the cohesive gel high profile implants. It hurt like hell when i woke up, but I couldn't get any meds due to medical reasons. After that, I felt fine. Never took any pain meds since day one and I was just really uncomfortable the first week. I am able to drive, lift my arms, lift things up, well you get the picture, pretty much back to normal. I'd say that the nurse probably hasn't had any firsthand experience and before you've gone thru this, you won't know how it really feels. Its not that bad at all.
My sister told me horror stories of how painful it was, she had hers done 5 years ago, but then again, she's got a very low pain threshold, she was amazed at how quickly I was able to do things for myself. She doesn't understand it.lol.
Good luck hun, and congrats on the big day

Re: Post-op pain with under?
Congrats on booking! Good luck - you'll be fine. Worst part of waking up is a tightness in your chest, like someone's sitting on it and you can't take a deep breath, passes in a few days, and isn't like unbearable pain.
Good luck and enjoy it!!!

Re: Post-op pain with under?
The advice you've been given by the ladies before me has said it all really - just wanted to say yeah, I agree and confirm that I felt the same.
I had 350 unders. The pain is bearable - its definately good advice to keep topped up with pain killers - no prizes given for taking less thinking you shouldnt - take the pain help thats offered - its only short term afterall.
Its true about that feeling like you've over-done the upper body exercises. Mistyhoney - OMG a thousand press-ups?!?! I wish I could! I think Id pass out never mind be sore
The worst pain is the morning boob - please look up other threads regarding this - its something I wasnt told before by my surgeon - only by the lovely ladies on here - 'morning boob' can take your breath away for a couple of seconds - but thats it - just seconds and once you start moving about it eases off.
You can do all the usual things with your arms but it takes time and you need to be careful not to strain your muscles cos then it hurts. Im still struggling with driving is all - just reversing really thats hard - but it gets easier every day.
Well done on the weight loss! Dont want to make light of your divorce problems - its bloody awful isnt it - BUT .... looking back .... as I can now cos its been a couple of years for me - Id say the 'divorce diet' is the best one I have ever been on! I can only say that cos Im recovered from that horrible time and find that I have to laugh at the past cos otherwise it drags in your heart.
I think you are very brave to be having the tummy op at the same time as your ba - but rightly so - Id say definatley the right way to do it. I considered it but was worried about how I would be afterwards. I wish I had now - got it all done in the one go - cos Im sure it would have been the better option. I spoke to my surgeon this morning (when I was there to have my ba check-up) about when I can have my adominoplasty and he said whenever you are ready. Ideally the sooner the better.
Take care, let us know how you get on. xx

Re: Post-op pain with under?
i have had unders and agree wiv the girls, i described it to my friends as having an elephant on ur chest but that woz partly as i had a binder on for the first week. im the biggest wimp but have to say its not painful, just aches type thing and waking up woz fine coz of the pain meds. childbirth is far more painful so if u can do that then getting new boobs is peice of cake. enjoy the journey everyone xxx

Re: Post-op pain with under?
id be careful if youre borderline for an uplift and getting unders, because the chances are youll get double bubble unless you get a very big implant. Youre same height and similar weight as me and also had similar amount of weight loss, plus the breastfeeding thing, and I went for implants without uplift to begin with as i was only borderline, and ended up needing a re-op with an uplift, as have several people here.
Id heavily suggest that you consider an uplift in your situation x

Re: Post-op pain with under?
Iyouve had lots of replies machirl but I'll add my experience nyway- not that i ill help much as im sure youve already figured that, just child birth, everine is different!!
I'm 37 and breasted 2 as well. had 310 unders just over a week ago. I can honestly say I had no pain- just, as many girls have said already major discomfort - like a heavy weights session at he gym LOL! The only pain was when putting all my weight through the upper body (e.g. Pushing up with arms from lying down). I could raise my arms above my head after a few days. Only had the morning boob for the first week and drove after 7 days, back to work after 9 days. It really has been a doddle for me - so far! But childbirth was not problematic for me either - both born at home with limited pain relief! I broke my ankle/leg very badly last year- the pain and discomfort was like unbearable-nothing I had experienced before! My BA is poles apart from that! Good luck!

I had 300cc unders and the pain when I woke up from the ba was horrendous but was soon sorted with meds, the pain after with regards to the days after was bearable and not bad at all just uncomfortable. As the girls have said even with the pIn after the ba I would go through it all again as what I have now is a massive boost in my confisedce and that's worth everything. Good luck hun xxxx
