Day Cases..Over night stays???
Hi girls,
Im a bit confused really...before I found this wonderful site I always assumed that when you had a BA you stayed in over night and weren't aloud home, but i see most people go home the same day, I assume you only have to stay overnight if you are a later appointment.
Im going with the hospital group and they charge £150 to be picked up and dropped of with an overnight stay, which im not opting for as hubby has a company vehicle and free fuel/mileage so would seem ridiculous to opt to pay extra lol.
But i always assumed as your undergoing quite a traumatic thing for your body to go through then u'd be expected to stay overnight?
I would probably prefer to stay overnight as im an over thinker and i would worry about things going wrong if i left to early lol sounds silly i know.

Re: Day Cases..Over night stays???
are you booked in with them yet? when i booked with them over night seemed standard, i know locals they let go home the same day if they was fine
Re: Day Cases..Over night stays???
I was quoted £4600 for an overnight stay and £4200 to go home! Bit of a no brainer really. Especially when I live 10 miles from the hospital and they said if the surgeon didn't think I was well enough to go home they would keep me in at no extra cost anyway.
Kinda made me wonder why anyone would opt to pay the extra if this was the case??
I suppose if you're travelling a long way to get there the last thing you want is a long car journey when you're all sore and groggy. xx

Re: Day Cases..Over night stays???
I had the same concerns on what to do but my surgery was giong to cost a extra £500.
I hate staying in hospital so I am hoping for a day case, see how I feel about travelling home.If I feel not up to it My bf and I can stay in a hotel near the hospital.
In any case if the hospital think im unwel they will keep me in overnight.x

Re: Day Cases..Over night stays???
i wasn't even given the option of a day case my co-ordinator said overnight is always best as i'm having drains and can have them removed before i go home.
i'd much rather be in there safe hands the first night also have a 2 and half hr journey to hospital fingers crossed the chauffeur included drives sensibly or that'll be the worst drive of my life lol xx

I haven't been given the option of a daycase either. At first I would have prefered daycase but I'm quite looking forward to a restful night now as have noone at home to take care of me!..(or maybe i'm just too independant to ask!)

Re: Day Cases..Over night stays???
I was also told id have to stay overnight because i live more than 30 mins from the hospital. Some people say they've stayed in a nearby hotel so they dont have to pay for the overnight stay but i wouldnt feel comfortable with this so am quite happy to be staying overnight, Im a bit of an overthinker too welshvicci!!! lol so any worries i have i know i can speak to someone about directly and things always seem worse to me at night xxx

Hey vicci,
i went in at 3pm for op at 4pm and was omw home by 730pm. I did have my BF taking me home, but I felt much better in my own bed. I don't know how things would differ with drains - as I didn't have them.
good luck!!

Re: Day Cases..Over night stays???
yeah everyone has different preferences
well a friend of mine was day case and had to go home with the drains then return to have them removed i'd much rather stay one night then have the nurse remove them before i leave and the morphine will be a bonus as just get sent home with painkillers lol xx

Re: Day Cases..Over night stays???
If you are a day case you will save about £500 xx
Like Jen said if they change your surgery time or think you should stay in it won't cost you anything xx

Re: Day Cases..Over night stays???
I wouldnt mind so much if i was actually able to go home in my own bed (altho with 3 children, one of whom is only 15 mths i think ill be glad of a short rest away!) but if i did go 4 a day case id have to stay in a hotel so wouldnt be ideal 4 me xxx

Re: Day Cases..Over night stays???
My overnight stay was included in the fixed price of £4000 with Spire and if you don't stay in you don't get any money back so i made the most of the rest 9as I have 3 & 5 year old boys at home) and stayed in overnight, watched tv, read my kindle and had lovely food and wine but I'm not sure I would have paid much extra to have stayed in as I only lived 20 mins from the hospital.
