Day cases
When you were admitted, did you have to wait around for any length of time for your surgery?
I've only had overnight cases before, admitting me first thing in the morning and I more or less went down straight away
My admission time is 8am, for day cases do you go straight down around your admission time too? Xx

Re: Day cases
Hi hunny I was day case for this one and one 10 weeks ago.
Admission time is an hour before surgery usually so your not waiting around. After you will still have your room and food, tea etc and medication if you need it and be made comfortable. A
So request for anti sickness meds if you need them. I did. You will be encouraged to drink lots of water so to pass urine as they won't let you go until you do. But around 5/6 hours after I was back in my room I went home.
They will let you stay until ou feel comfyabke and ready to go.
I preferred being a day case as was nice having my own bed and surroundings.

Re: Day cases
Yes, I'd prefer being at home to, although for my 1st op with not knowing what to expect I was glad of the reassurance being in hospital.
I've already noted what you said about sickness drugs mrs ball. I'd told the surgeon for my last op I didn't fair to well from anaesthetic, but I was still horribly sick for days afterwards, I really couldn't stand that again, so I'm going to place a lot of emphasis on them doing their best for me not to be sick. I requested that I have a twilight anaesthesia, you know the kind where you're awake but heavily sedated, but my surgeon refused because he said it would give him enough time to do the amount of work needed, so that was out of the question. I've just got to hope I don't get sick
Yeah, it was about an hour from admission time for my other surges, admitted to the room, questions from the nurse, seeing the surgeon, questions again, then seeing the anaesthetist and questions again lol, then straight down.. Good to know its the same then. Xx

Re: Day cases
I'm a day case too so thanks for posting cookie. Still don't know an admission time yet. I don't mind if I have to stay in over night as iv heard sometimes its unavoidable espesh if your admission time is late with a day case. Im hoping ill be okay though as iv had a GA as a daycase before and as soon as I woke I was out of bed & heading for the door to get out ASAP lol. Fingers crossed!xox

Heeheeee congrats cazzy
Have you received a letter from your hospital yet Cazzy with your admission time?
When I had my overnight stays I wasn't informed of admission times until days before surgery, but I got my admission letter last week with my admission time on. Xx

Re: Day cases
My nurse was lovel and I actually have a phobia of sick so I placed a lot of emphasis on it to the anaesthetist , nurse etc. so they knew. You are given it through your iv anyway but around an hour after I come round in my room I felt a bit nauseous so she gave me an anti sickness injection as opposed to tablet as tablet would have probably made me sick do. Jab in my thigh was given and one the trick within 20 mins and managed to eat a little after xx

Re: Day cases
Cookie you could ask your gp for anti sickness tablets if you explain that your having a GA and you suffer badly. I don't know if meds are included in your op?
Nope no letter or pre-op yet but they do have 1 month 1 week 2 days lol

Re: Day cases
I had all of that last time i had surgery and they did take the edge off but the nausea still remained i stayed on anti-sickness meds for about a week after but, sorry if its too much information but its the wretching i find the worst... Looking back now and I've only thought of this just this moment lol. I'm wondering if all of that contributed to me having a bleed? Xx

Re: Day cases
Yes Cookie if your a day case they get you into surgery so you have a few hours to recover before they send you home. I had to be in at 7 and was in surgery by 8.30. As you know by the time they do everything that hour or so flys past. Bet it's finally feeling real now you are getting all your confirmation xx

Re: Day cases
I was a day case but nearly turned into an overnight stay....admission time 7.30a.m, surgery time 2pm i was fuming you can imagine how much my nerves were attacking me having to wait all that time when ithought i would be going down at 8.30a.m!!
Apparently my surgeon had an emergency case to deal with so had to wait for that i was a nervous wreck by the time they came for me then as they wheeled me down through the recovery room into theatre there was a girl there that had just comeout & was starting to come round, showing major signs of distress...my whole body was literally trembling with fear by the time the anaesthetist did his job then everything went black & i woke up feeling like 'jordan' pmsl love my new boobies :) well worth the nervousness!! Xxxx

Re: Day cases
Thanks for your replies lovely ladies
I'd understand if an emergency came through... I would put up with side effects if that we're the case. But if not I'd really rather go first if I could to avoid them. Xx
