Referral by consultant v. referral from GP? Empty Referral by consultant v. referral from GP?

Post by Ella88 11th May 2011, 2:40 pm

Hi!

I've finally got a referral from my specialist consultant (I have mosaic Turner's syndrome, which has affected my size and my consultant said she thought I might be able to get surgery on the NHS), and have my first appointment in the plastic surgery clinic tomorrow. (Soooo excited & nervous!).

Does anyone know whether referral from a consultant works differently to referral through the GP? I'm not sure whether just getting to the stage of having an appointment with the surgeon means I'm good to go, or whether I'll still have to go through meetings with the psychologist and apply for funding etc etc.

Thanks!

hi there! sorry im not much help as i went through my gp and then onto the usual psychologist and surgeon, i guess that if your appointment goes ok tomorrow and they say yes then they will then apply for the funding? i'm in Scotland so we don't have to apply for funding atall but im pretty sure everyone else in England etc have to now?!
Anyway, good luck for tomorrow! let us know how it goes 👋

Thanks ladies!

Just returned from my appointment - the surgeon was SO nice, and completely put me at ease. He's happy to do the surgery, and is now going to apply for funding from the PCT. Fingers crossed! He's hoping that my medical condition will count as 'exceptional circumstances' and that they'll agree....
