Caring for 16 month old twins after a boob job??
Hi all,
how much help do you think I will need to look after my 16month old twin boys and for how long after my ba? I have a very supportive hubby who says he'll help lots. I have read some of the ba stories already, but in the few days after you ba were you able to get on with limited things round the house and caring for your children?
I am staying overnight the first night, have someone to look after them during the days for the first 4 - 5 days (and husband in the evening) but hoping i will still be able to do things with them.
Worried maybe its too soon and how will i cope...just last minute nerves hopefully!!

Re: Caring for 16 month old twins after a boob job??
Hey hunni, I have twins too (boy&girl) - mine were 17 months when I had my BA. I had help from mum and hubby for the first (I think) 10 days, then I was on my own with them for the first time. I coped absolutely fine after that - just had to take it easy and be careful when lifting them in and out of cots and high chairs. I probably could have lifted them before that, but just go by what your body tells you and try not to over-do things. What are you having done? Unders, overs, uplift? I just had overs with no uplift, so it was all very straight forward for me and quick to heal.

Personally, I would think you would need help for a bit longer than 4-5 days. Just the lifting and carrying will be too much and the tiredness this op creates may get to you whilst caring for 2 small children.
Having said that my 1st 2 children were 14 months apart and when mums come into my shop with babies close in ages I wonder how on earth I coped, but I did, so you probably will as well with having this op and 2 little uns and it's just my old age showing lol
I could get on with a few things around the house but anything strenuous was beyond me and the tiredness was the worst thing.
Good luck with your BA, you will love your new boobies xx

I have one 16 month old and I could not imagine having twins right now. I know everyone is different, but I dont have the energy and honestly it really hurts to pick her up. I make her walk to the car if we have to go anywhere but lifting her into her high chair or car seat is the most difficult. BUT it can be done! I have managed taking care of her since day 2 and we're both ok

Sweetie, you're DEFINATELY going to help after having under for 'at least' 10 to 14 days! 5 days of help id no were near enough lovely, so you're going to have prepare for this, not just for your health as you'll be be recovering from a major operation, but for your childrewns saftey too as you will be VERY tired and won't be able to get up quickly, which is often the need with children that age who need carefil watching ALL of the time and are into EVERYTHING!
You're just not going to be able to do it hun. You WILL need more help

I have a 2 year old, and I am now on day 10 - I have had help up to today , and am still having mum to help me today. I was told not to lift her for 2 weeks after, but did for the first time yesterday. Cant say it hurt, was uncomfortable. Have been told not to iron or hoover for another week and a half. 4 to 5 days help isnt enough for you to recover..although you may feel capable of doing more after the first 5 days, you need longer, and wouldnt want to ruin things by doing too much. Ive been tiring quickly too. You need time to rest x

Re: Caring for 16 month old twins after a boob job??
my youngest 2 arent twins, but theyre only 11mths apart, and they were just 2 and just 3 when i had mine done, and i really needed help for the first couple of weeks, for stuff like lifting etc, and then was able to do minimal lifting, but didnt really lift them properly for about 4 weeks. I had unders though. Placement will make a difference.
Luckily my other half was able to work from home.
There are things you can do to minimise the lifting if 2 weeks is out of question

Thanks for all the advice; I have got oh to take more time off work. We also have a childminder to help out...I feel a bit bad that I won't be able to do everything I would normally do with them for the sake of vanity...did anyone else feel guilty or am i over thinking about things?

Your children are going to be just fine This is a very SMALL portion of your life that you're taking just for you! and that's NOT wrong hunni!
Your children aren't going to lose out in any way, you're still going to there for them, you can still read them bedtime stories, you can still be a mum, but you'll just be a mum who needs a couple of weeks of help with the kids 'cos you're not going to be able to pick them up and you might need a little more rest... You can always make it up to them when you're feeling up to it, so throw that guilt away babe... sometimes us mums need a little something for us, we always as a mother will put ourselves last instinctively and this one time, you're going to be first! After this... you're back to the bottom of the pile hun!
Back to work! Back to washing! Back to ironing! Back to cooking! Back to cleaning! Back to running here, there and everywhere! Back to being a jack of all trades which is what we mums are! haha
Enjoy the rest babe and enjoy the new you! There's a saying that a happier mum makes happier kids! so..... in doing this little something for you, you're also benefitting the kids too! haha!

Thanks for that cookie, you are so right, there isn't much 'me' time for us mums so I am going to make the most of it for a short time and try not to feel too bad!

Dont feel bad hun, I can only immagine how busy your life is with the twins! Definately take advantage of a little recovery time off and take care of yourself and relax... before you know it you will be back running around after your little ones.
