stiitches and cream advise
Hello ladies, just a quick question today is my first official day that I was allowed to shower woohoo it felt good I felt very concious about my stitches when I was washing lol.
I still have my stitches in :( and I was wonder can I apply cream to them yet or do I have to wait until they have gone? They also are raised and look horrible not a pretty site I imagine they will change eventually.
Help !!!

Did the nurse not tell u babe?
Basically I got told by the nurse not to directly wash my incisions. Just tto wash my chest and let it run over them and to not rub them!
I also got told not to use anything as in bio oil vit E cream until at least 6 weeks!
Give your clinic a call if ur unsure hun xxxxx

Your clinic may be different hun.
That's just what they told me. And even if I couuld wash them I soooooooooo would. Not touch them! Hahaha! It would make me feel sick I think!
And after I've washed them to just sit with a towel on them to dry them (not rub or patt dry them)
Work was ok.... Got a full day tomoz :-( but my boss was lovely and said if I don't feel well to just go home. My dads taking me as I don't feel ready to drive yet. So he'kll have to be prepaed to pick me up any time. Xxxx

Re: stiitches and cream advise
Normally, you are advised not to put anything on your scar until the incision is fully closed - do you have external stitches or internal?

Re: stiitches and cream advise
I had my first proper shower today too, and I was a bit worried incase shampoo and shower gel would get into my scars.lol. I just let the water run on them. After i patted them dry and put some sterile strips on them, i felt really sick after as I'm such a weakling and hate looking at my scars make me feel weak.lol. I had to lay down for a bit and take deep breaths. I hate being like this but I have such a phobia of blood and such related things. Its crazy as I had my first child be c-section so have a scar from that, but I just don't touch it.
About rubbing cream on your scars, I wouldn't think its too soon. I think thing like that you have to wait until they have turned more like a thin pink scar rather then a cut. So about 6 weeks. xxx

Re: stiitches and cream advise
We all get told different info. I got told that i can put cream on my scars as long as the wounds are fully closed, i got some palmers scar serum bu only put it on once as im really squeamish about my scars. I too nearly fainted and had to lie on the bed when some water ran down my belly after my shower. I thought it was blood and the wound had burst open! Our minds play tricks on our fears. I was told to dry my scars with a hair dryer if poss and let fresh air get to them a bit

Ahh bless you hun, its horrible aint it. I keep thinking things like that! I think sometimes that they might split open. Makes me go all funny! Yeah I was told about the hairdryer too. Every PS is different and we are all getting different advice, we should just go with what we are each told individually. xxx

Re: stiitches and cream advise
You should call your clinic because all the doctors have different ways of doing things. I was told to wash the incisions with soap and wash cloth 4 times a day. For th first week I was told to use polysporin but the nurse said not to use it after the first week. They told me no lotions or creams. THe nurse said after they heal I can use silicone strips to help with the scars.

Re: stiitches and cream advise
It's best not to put any moisturisers, lotions or oils anywhere near your wounds until you get the all clear from your clinic/surgeon. This is because you are still very much at risk of infection hunni, so just do as you've been instructed to do (shower and keep dry) until you're told it's OK to do anything else lovely. xx
Re: stiitches and cream advise
Thank you for the advise ladies, i keep missing calls from my clinic then iphone them back and the nurse is busy lol. I have stittches on the outside :-( they look awful. Okay so i will just let water wash over them and wait until i see the nurse again to see what she says about washing etc.
How long is it before they start to heal properly?

Re: stiitches and cream advise
Depends on how quickly your skin heals hun, could be a week, could be two for the wound to close, but six weeks, possibly longer for some for the wound to be fully healed. xx
Re: stiitches and cream advise
Thanks cookie, probably a while my skin takes a while to heal if i cut myself, it'll be a nice feeling when they are and i dont hav eto worry about them, xx
