Excercise!
What exercise can I do at the gym that will keep me slim but isn't going to hurt my new boobies? I would really love to tone up my tummy. I usually do about 30 mins jogging on the treadmill but I think that's out of the question now. I have paid so much for my gym membership and will be moving 120 miles away from it in a couple of months so want to make the most of it.
There are bikes, steppers, treadmills, rowing machines, weights, sit up thingies. The usual.
Any suggestions?
Thanks lovelies :o)

Re: Excercise!
I'm afraid you shouldn't do exercise until your surgeon says it's ok to do so. Most people walk or do statinary bike exercises lightly. Aerobic exercise or running should not be done for 4-6 weeks to prevent post operative bleeding. Light gentle exercise on the lower body is fine, but nothing that increases your heart rate dramatically. I can only stress that eating a healthy diet will not only keep the extra lbs off but it will also increase your healing. Light gentle exercise and nothing on the upper body.
Re: Excercise!
When I say exercise I don't mean what I would normally do. I mean what would I be able to do without straining myself. Maybe I should stick to walking on the treadmill for 30 mins where I would usually jog. This is where I am stuck as I don't even know if that is too much.
I was more after specific things I CAN do. There must be something that isn't too strenuous. I can't just sit around all day. I'll go crazy.

Re: Excercise!
It is very important to keep mobile after any surgery. Umm things you can do, is walk, climb stairs, walk on treadmill, go on exercise bike just keep your hands by your side. A good one for tummy is getting up from lying down without using your arms, just your tummy muscles, gosh my tummy had a work out after my BA lol. Here is some fab news The metabolic rate rises when the body undergoes a surgical procedure, so for a few weeks you will burn extra calories, without lifting a finger. Although you might still have a swollen belly for a couple of weeks due to bloating. It does go down though.
Re: Excercise!
i just talked with them about exercise yesterday, i told her i do pushups, situps, weights, she just super laughed and made a big circle around the 'six weeks' in my paperwork... i got the idea the main stuff to avoid is anything that raises your heart rate, and anything that works the upper body..// so anything that doesn't do those things i guess is ok, which kind of seems like, walking, and maybe leg stretches! @@ (and all the stuff misf1 just said) but, maybe they will give you a refund if you are moving. (or had major surgery) or maybe you can sell/sublet your membership to a friend for now and then rejoin.. //
im just personally planning to go for lots and lots of walks.. // (or you could ask the gym people but i kind of wouldn't totally trust them honestly) i know, gonna miss my weights n stretches for awhile! ^^

Re: Excercise!
Wow. I can't even do 1 Push up. Hahaha. So walking it is then. I really hope I don't get a belly from this. I have been eating pretty well recently so that shouldn't be a problem. Is there a threshold for Heart rate that I can't go over? They have those little HR handles on all the machines that tell you how high it is. I could just keep an eye on that I guess. Under 140? 130? I have no idea actually.
Thanks for the advice!

now thats an interesting question.. // since you can monitor it so closely, maybe the dr can tell you a number! @@

Re: Excercise!
I took about 3 weeks off the gym completely and I wld imagine that's what your ps will suggest too. Then I did the reclining bike, walking on treadmill, cross trainer (NO arms tho!)
You can also do lunges (without weight obviously) but nothing at all that puts strain on your back and chest muscles. Just be really careful about what u eat (I wasn't!!) so that when u do go back to the gym your not working extra hard. Xx

Re: Excercise!
Hey Pinkabob,
I just wanted to let you know.... I've been a bit sneaky and headed back to the gym. Tomorrow will be my 3 week appointment and I have been going since Monday night. All I am doing is the elyptical, stairs & some leg curls. I'm picking courses that focus on my butt so hopefully I'm tightening my stomach. I drink a lot of water and make sure I listen to my body. I'm not doing anything that is putting pressure or pain on my upper body and I'm not doing things as speedy as normal by any means - trying to keep the blood pressure down - but for my own mental health I have to do something! My visits are a bit shorter but at least they are fequent so maybe things will balance out. Good luck!

Re: Excercise!
Haha nawty Ellie, I love exercise and I am a regular gym goer to spin, body bump, and the gym, but I actually can't even contemplate going I hurt way too much and can't see the end of the tunnel through the pain, I am guessing i am lucky and my job is active and will keep me fit, until I can go back properly even then I don't want to risk any damage to my new additions.
Just be careful if you do go I can't imagine the pain involved if something went wrong xxx

Re: Excercise!
Hey Sharon,
I know! I'm bad but I'm not pushing hard and like you my work is very active. ...So last week I went back to work so it was only proper that I added just a little leg work out at the gym. I won't even attempt anything upperbody. I know that pain you are talking about and after only one week off I thought I was crazy for not booking two but it honestly forced my mind into feeling better which in turn made me feel better physically as well. My PS said I was fine to do walking on the treadmill but I don't even do that - I like the continual steps so there isn't an impact happening, ya know? I will fully confess my workouts to him tomorrow! eek!

Re: Excercise!
I believe that you are supposed to avoid avoid anything that raises your blood pressure for at least two weeks (including sex;)
and then slowly resume lower body exercises, and you can do bike after that.
I started going back to the gym at 3-4 weeks, and at about 6 weeks I was pretty much full force again, but since I had under the muscle its been a slow recovery...tried to do bench press the other day and I could feel my muscles pulling, so bench and pushups are outta the question for me right now :)

Re: Excercise!
Think of things in these terms - sure, you don't want to lose the money you paid for your gym membership - a few hundres quid? now think about what you've just paid for your new boobs - around 4 grand?
What would you rather lose?
A couple of pounds in weight or the prospect of you compromising your recovery?
You can always get back into your routine AFTER your recovery period - You paid a lot of money to your surgeon not just for the boobs he/she gave you but for the advice they gave you too - This is because they specialise in this field and KNOW what is the right thing to do to enable you to get the best from your recovery.
You don't have to sit around all day - A healthy diet and walking is enough to maintain your weight until you're ready to return to the gym when you get the all clear from your surgeon sweetness. xx

Re: Excercise!
common sense goes a long way too..if it doesn't feel right don't do it...that's pretty much what my PS said, the only real restriction he gave me was NO exercise before the 2 week period, then after that use reason and always listen to your body :)

Re: Excercise!
Yeh know what you mean about exercise I can't wait to get back, I went shopping today and did loads of walking,,, I am sooo tiired, I don't know how I will be wen I first work out! I would say wait for the all clear from surgeons, although lower body workout should be ok, I have started doing some squats today, but I just didn't over do it! Xxxx
