Arnica Montana
Hello Ladies!
I had my pre-op today and received a list of recommended herbal supplements to take to help the healing process, Vitamin C, K Bromelain, all of which I have heard of and I am comfortable with, but on the top of the list is one that I haven't ever heard of called "Arnica Montana", this is supposed to help with bruising a swelling.
I am a little concerned because I did some online research about it and it turned up that this substance is actually toxic, and can cause death if not taken properly... I was just wondering if any of you ladies have heard of / taken this product (orally) to aid in your healing? If so did you experience any side effects? In your opinion do you think that it helped,... Etc...
Thanks in advance, I have just had some issues with herbal supplements before and am very wary of them now...

Re: Arnica Montana
Arnica Montana is the name of the plant they make the pills from. We use them a lot in Britain to reduce brusing and swelling. By the time it gets to a pill form it is so diluted unless you took way too many it shouldn't do you any damage.
It's a little white daisy like flower and if you ate the flower it is very poisonus and causes serious side effects. Only one death has been reported through eating the herb not the pills.

Re: Arnica Montana
Arnica Montana is brilliant stuff. If you buy the laboratory Arnica Montana (like Sinecch) there is no problem. Toxicity could be a problem if you buy it out of a baggie at the market. Follow instructions though. It works wonders on bruising, swelling and bleeding. Mind you, if you dont follow the instructions, and take too much, or too often it can (still unlikely tho) cause bleeding. A complete contradiction, but true. I alway use it for surgery and it is is well suited to BA surgery. Hope this helps! I dont know if I can list on here where you can buy Sinecch reputably online, or whether it is available in the UK. I get mine sent out from the States to Australia.

Re: Arnica Montana
I bruised like mad! I actually just got Arnica gel and put it on my boobs. My PS said it would help deminish the brusing within 3 days but I'm 2 weeks of using it 2x a day and I still have some bruises for sure. Maybe that pill form is a lot faster for healing.

Re: Arnica Montana
About arnica, you girls have said how it helps or in some cases makes little different. To be on the safe side I'd like to take it but where can I buy it from and for how long before and after my op should I be taking it. I bruise easily (grr everytime I get my bloods taken my arm looks battered) so I think it would be best for me to take it. There's lots of different advice saying it helps bruising and swelling however it can thin the blood which is bad new for the actual surgery. Can any1 help clarify things please?? Xxx

If used as directed (Sinecch is one tablet prior to surgery, than continue post surgery) there is no problem with thinning of the blood. It actually reduces bleeding (thats why it helps with bruising) If you dont follow the directions, it can actually cause bleeding. Thats why its so strange that a tablet which helps with bleeding can actually cause bleeding if you take too much. I imagine you'd have to take a significant amount, or over a prolonged time for this to happen. Medically produced arnica montana is very safe and effective. I dont know if I can post where I buy mine from (Maybe someone can clarify if I can?) Otherwise pm me and I will let you know.

Re: Arnica Montana
Just want to add to this lovelies: I have been taking Arnica Montana since my BA (my PS actually gave it to me when I booked my surgery, along with a bottle of Bromelain), and I have not ONE BRUISE in my chest area, and bruises I had elsewhere before went away like magic. I bruised my leg bad when I fell down the stairs on Saturday, and already it is almost gone. I BRUISE LIKE A PEACH, by the way, and they take forever to go away, so this is nothing short of miraculous. If that helps. :good:

Re: Arnica Montana
I took Bromelain 3 days before and for about a week after, and Arnica Montana starting immediately after my surgery. My PS said, "B is for before, A is for after." Smile. At 21 says still taking Arnica because at my one-week post-op, my PS told me to keep taking the Arnica until I see him again because I was still swelling at the time (he could feel it even on my rib bones, very interesting, since I thought all the swelling was gone). The swelling IS all gone now and NO BRUISES EVER!!!! Good luck sweetie!!! Just stay in touch with your PS and take their advice I'd say. Worked beautifully for me.

Re: Arnica Montana
Thank you so much huni. I've been bit confused bout it all but u seem to have clarified it. I'll still check with my ps obv and see what he recommends. I'm pretty sure it'll be similar to what you have described. I'll have to start getting the bromelain and arnica ready so I can take it when it's time. thanks for the info. Xxxx

Re: Arnica Montana
Oh glad to help sweetness!!! And just follow your PS's advice. Getting it all ready beforehand is brilliant. One thing I wish I had done was open the caps before I went to the surgery center. When I got home, I could not do it! I had no idea how the chest muscles contract to open things. I kept a notebook and pencil right by the bottles and in the haze of the painkiilers, quickly jotted down what I took and what time it was when I took it, cause no way would I ever have remembered. I would have double dosed a lot. Something to consider....
Oh, and I read somewhere that a whole drop of PURE refined cinnamon oil will kill a grown man. Just to ease your mind a little more about the wondrous Arnica Montana miracle herb. Smile. xxxx

Re: Arnica Montana
Aww feeling helpless cos u can't do the simplest of task as open a bottle. I've been tld that before that it's amazing what you use your chest muscles to do. I'll make sure I gave my tablets are ready, my caps open and I'll scribble when I take em on my fone. Good tip huni.
Oh an that's highly reassuring about the power of the herb hehe. Puts me fully at ease :)) I'll bear that in mind I've the boyfriend doesn't like the new boobs hehe xxxx

Re: Arnica Montana
If I had a nickel for each of my typos!!!! Ha ha. :)
Good idea about the Bf and the cinnamon oil! I am thinking how funny it would be to tell my BF that little bit of info, and then ask him to unload the groceries (and of course have a bottle of cinnamon oil in there. Though, lethal as it is, you probably can't buy it. I would print a fake label and stick it on a bottle of vanilla. Grin.) I would think it was terribly funny! He might not.
Glad to hear you'll be getting everything ready. You're gonna be just fine and love your new boobies! Hugs, lovely one.
