1. Did you take Arnica before and after your surgery?? Yes
2. Did you have any bruising?? None
3. Would you normally have bruised more do you think?? Maybe
4. Would you recommend Arnica from your experience?? In my experience I found with my BA I didn't bruise even slightly, but whilst I was taking arnica pre op I fell and bruised my ankle. the bruise was lighter and went away quicker.
I dont believe arnica will stop bruises but it should help reduce the colour and make the bruise come out quickly and fade quickly.

Re: Did you take Arnica??
Arnica is a homeopathic medicine which is said to help against bruising and swelling after surgery. It was recommended by my surgeon (Michael Payne) of THG and I know THG recommend this so I am surprised they didn't recommend it to you as well.
You can purchase it at Boots (about £5 from memory) and comes in pillule form which you allow to dissolve under the tongue. Typically you would start about 3 days before you operation and continue taking them for 5 days afterwards.
For the cost of these, I would certainly recommend them - but do speak to your PS first.

Re: Did you take Arnica??
Yes I did take Arnica - I took it before and for a few days afterwards, then ran out and couldn't get anymore as it was Xmas!
Yes I bruise very easily
I didn't bruise initially but after I ran out of tablets about 3 days post op, by day 5 I had a terrible black bruise appear that went underneath right boob right underneath arm pit and took several weeks to fade.
So don't really know if this bruise would have come up as bad if I had continued taking Arnica or not. But I would take again (and make sure I had enough tablets next time).

Re: Did you take Arnica??
I took arnica 2 weeks before and I normally bruise like a peach, touch me to hard and i will mark! After my op i hardly had any bruising at all, so for me yes it works, If i need to wear something that shows my legs and arms off, i will take arnica in advance now, as i manage to bruise myself all to often. x

Re: Did you take Arnica??
No, that should be fine hun - in fact I think you start off on the first day with a slightly higher dose (6 pillules IIRC). Don't swallow them, just allow them to dissolve under the tongue.

Re: Did you take Arnica??
I have the boots ones too. They say to take 2 pillules every 2 hours for 1st 6 doses, then 4 times a day after that.
When do you recommend I start them Carol?
Thanks. xx

Re: Did you take Arnica??
I started 3 days before the operation Kirsty and continued for 4 or 5 days afterwards (until the very faint bruising I got had disappeared).

Re: Did you take Arnica??
No one had mentioned arnica to me before! I am now 1 day post op (and sore!). Is it too late to start now? Also, my surgeon said to leave the breast band if I like them high (they were low before!) but don't they just drop on their own in time anyway???
