I would contact your nurse hun, sounds like your having a reaction to it, I am sure that they can change it for something else. 6 weeks is a looooong time...

Aw hun, it could just be the healing, they do go through a really itchy stage. Maybe try putting a cold compress on the wounds ie bag of frozen peas in a tea towel

I agree with Loubyroo sweetheart, get some advice from your clinic. I had unders too and the nurse took the dressings off after 7 days and put nothing else on there - but everything was closed up by then. However, you do need to follow the advice of your particular surgeon or nurse - not me. I was just telling you about me so as to re-assure you if they did tell you to take it off, you wouldn't panic about it.

My stitches itched like buggery too at about the 2 week mark! It does get better hunni (honest!)

You can take antihisthamines if it gets a bit much, but cold also made mine feel better (frozen peas at the ready! lol)

If your skin gets really red around the tape or it just gets too much without any relief I would contact your PS!

Ice packs will help (or frozen peas). If it gets red and too much to bear definitely contact your nurse hun, it could be a reaction to the tape.

A combo of healing and also the codeine in your pain meds is prob whats causing the itch chick! Lightly tapping the area of itch seems to take it away a little, sorta relieves you a bit cause you feel like atleast ur doing something to the area. Id be surprised if its a reaction to the taping but you never know..keep an eye on it x

I didn't have any itchyness hun but I'm sure the girls have reassured you already, a cool compress can help but I would also speak to your PS or clinic to ask their advice, we can advise on things but it's always best to check with your own clinic because they are the one's that know you personally and know what to advise for you personally, you've paid for their care hun, so get your monies worth!!!

Hope the 'itch' goes away soon, I'm sure it will.... happy healing!!

My PS recommended I start massaging scars and covering with micropore tape after my 3 week check up - the scars looked fine when he first took dressings off, but after a few days of taping each day with micropore the whole area of scarring and where tape was, was itchy and red - so I am not using tape now - but you may want to check with your PS. xx
