silicone in lymph node Empty silicone in lymph node

Post by nics 28th September 2010, 8:54 pm

hi, I had breast implants 6 years ago, 4 1/2 years ago I discovered a lump between my right breast and armpit, after an MRI I was told it was a ruptured implant, I had the surgery in England but had since moved to Dublin, I went to see a specialist in the hospital on public healthcare (you have to pay for health insurance in Ireland no NHS) I was very lucky as he said it was a medical requirement to remove and replacement was necessary too, so this was done free of charge. The surgeon informed me he couldn't remove the silicone from the lymph node, that was a year and half ago and I discovered two smaller lumps directly above and below the orignal lump, they feel the same and are only tender if I keep touching them otherwise don't bother me. Do the lymph nodes continuously break the silicone into smaller lumps? I did have them checked by ultra sound and they are silicone and no further rupture had occured? but had another check today and found another small one in my armpit?? Will this continue? thanks and its great to find a site that can actually give good, understandble advice

Hi nics, I have a ruptured implant and also have silicone in 3 of my lymph nodes, the most distinct one is right in my armpit and it feels quite big. However i can also feel the lymph node in my other armpit which feels about the size of a pea...this one is normal. You may just be feeling a normal lymph node...x

Hi, the original lump is the same size, the other lumps are a lot smaller abo the size of a pea so maybe is it just me being paranoid but they do become tender if i constantly poke at them , i also found out today that the original implants were PIPs which I had no idea about until I looked at this site and it actually makes sense now because the rupture I had had been there for ages the consultant said and he couldn't understand why, so now I know!! like I said I was lucky that one of them was removed and replaced, however my left one is still a PIP, I got onto the surgeon who emailed me to say just keep an eye on it and continue with the ultrasounds to ensure nothing has ruptured!! Am I going to be left with these tender lumps forever or can you get them removed? Thanks for your replies gives me a little piece of mind x

If you have them removed I believe they actually remove the lymph nodes. I really don't know much more than that, may be worth asking James McDiarmid I surgeon on here.

I had 5 lymph nodes removed due to my rupture hun... I still today have a raised lymph node under my left armpit though which I'm told is fine and not to worry about, if I do have a 'paranoia day' and start feeling around, I can make the lymph node feel very sore hun, so best to just leave it alone and have the experts check it out sweetness. xx
