Overs/Unders? Who decides?
Hi girls,
I meet my surgeon on Tuesday, and I want to go in there knowing as much as possible. I'm wonder who decides whether I have unders or overs? And what is the main difference in appearance?
Thanks
Tan xx

Hi Tanya Jade,
Bascially, your surgeon will decide which will look best for you. My surgeon said that people who tend to have little or no breast tissue suit unders better where as those who have more breast tissue suit overs.
My surgeon said I could take eithe as I had a small amount of breast tissue but I went with unders as I felt that would give me a more 'natural' look -- I didn't want the 'round' look.
Hope this helps?

Your surgeon will decides hun. It all depends on the breast tissue you already have and to have overs you need enough to cover the implant otherwise your surgeon will most likely suggest unders. xx

Re: Overs/Unders? Who decides?
You've seen my pics hun - I was an ampty C too. My surgeon told me I would be best with overs as I had good skin and enough breast tissue to cover the implants. He said if I'd had unders there would be a risk of double-bubble, where the implant is held high up under the muscle on the chest wall, with my existing breast tissue hanging underneath. As Caroline says, unders are good for women with little or no breast tissue to start with.

Re: Overs/Unders? Who decides?
Thank you for your advice girls.
Basically, my surgeon will decide what is going to look best, by looking at what I currently have. I do want them to look natural though. I suppose I'll just have to wait until Tuesday ..
Thank you xxxx

Re: Overs/Unders? Who decides?
yeah my surgeon said unders definately best for me as little tissue over breast plate Can somethimes see my bones) and i would look like Victoria Beckham if i had overs LOL not the look i was going for.
I was unsure at first as didnt know anyone that had unders but i love them now and in hindsight my surgeon was right :)
They say if you cant pinch 2cm of skin on your chest above your boobs then you will prob be advised to have unders
Good luck with your consultation babe - not long now :cheerlead:

Re: Overs/Unders? Who decides?
I was told that unders help prevent capsular contracture (sp?). I had ample breast tissue (36d) pre BA and needed a lift plus implants. I got 350cc unders and am currently measuring a 34dd/e at only 4 weeks post op...and very full at that even with the unders. i stick with what your surgeon says, but also do some research on your own. there are several studies out there. and ask lots of questions. also, some surgeons just prefer different techniques. one thing i was told is that surgeons are like artists...if you like the rest of his work, you'll probably like how yours turn out.
so excited for you!!!

Re: Overs/Unders? Who decides?
I agree with AgtKensington surgeons have their own preference.
I personally have chosen overs I wanted them and they look natural if you have enough breast tissue to start off with. They also have a more natural movement and only look stuck on if you go for an implant size that is too big for your frame.
I had 3 consultations. My first consultation said I could have either but she preferred the dual plane position (partial unders) and steered people towards that because she felt it gave better results but she went on to tell me she had a colleague who only did overs because he thought they gave better results. After this she said I may possibly need a nipple lift aswell. I said the fact that she had said possibly meant I would prefer to see if I needed one rather than just have one done at the time of surgery.
The second and third said overs as I had plenty of breast tissue and they would only recommend unders if a woman had not got enough breast tissue.
People say listen to your surgeon they know best but sometimes you need to check that you preference is taken into account with their recommendation. As the first surgeon I went to recommended something that they preferred and that I didn't want. By shopping around I got what I wanted because my expectations weren't unrealistic. xx

I too had ample breast tissue and when I asked surgeonn after if he had gone under the msucle he said "of course"...as they often find that the most natural and gives support for uplift. All depends on surgeon and person tho. Worth discussing with your surgeon, however,, he is the expert so I let mine decide. x
