Hi ladies

Just wondering how soon after your op did you have your post op appointment to have dressings removed?? And roughly how long does it take for the stitches to dissolve??

Thankyou xx

hey hun,

I had my post op at one week exactly and had my dressings removed. I think (assume!!) my stitches had dissolved at that point and now i just have to use the medipore tape to prevent them 'stretching' xx

Hiya, everyones different ,I had my dressings removed at post op appointment and steri strips put on inscisions had them on for a week then was told to massage inscisions after that, not sure about when the stitches fully dissolved as couldn't see any by this time, just felt like small bumps under the skin which the massaging breaks down. Don't know if this helps any. XXX

Ahhh ok thankyou I'm supposed to be going for mine on Tuesday but the plaster bit is coming off and really annoying me. They had offered Monday or Tuesday but I said Tuesday, so will ring in the morning and see if I can go tomorrow instead just wanted to make sure it would be ok then. Thanks for your help G xx

whatever you do babe, don't remove the dressings yourself. If you have to buy some micropore tape to tape the dressing back down its best to do that babe until you go back and have your post-op check. Its best not to disturb the wound at all whilst its trying to heal and to let your clinic nurse do that for you. They will know if the wound is healed enough not to have any more dressings on, or whether they might benefit from possibly another week covered up.

i had mine checked at one week, but back in dressings after that.

The nurse snips any stitches away that may be troublesome and out they come. This doesn't hurt a bit babe. The stitches generally start dissolving from a week onwards. After the wound is healed together it is possible for months afterwards to have the occasional 'spitting stitch' appear. This is a stitch under the skin that works its way to the surface. When this happens an appointment with the clinic nurse to have it snipped it quick, easy, done and gone. Xxx

Thanks cookie I just stuck it back to my skin as much as I could and my support bra is over it so should keep it there.
Will ring in the morning would feel better about going tomorrow if I can as I go back to work on Wednesday so would be nice to have a day between knowing that it's all ok. I am also wanting a shower so much..... I had a little bath but it wasn't worth it I hate baths I just had to shave my legs I couldn't let the hair get the better of me hahaha.
I can imagine it to be such a luxury and as soon as I can have one I'm going to make it the longest ever haha xx

I had my first post op at 6 days. The nurse removed my dressings, snipped the ends off of my stitches, and then covered my incisions with steri strips. I think the internal stitches can take weeks to dissolve x

Feelig your pain on the shower issue! I'm only day 4 post op and I feel vile! The shallow baths and baby wipes just aren't cutting it!

My first post op appointment is on Thursday Kitty so exactly a week after my op however my dressing will just be changed as i have to keep my scars covered with tape until my 6 week post op appointment xx
