Would you maybe think about seeing a BAAPS surgeon? You can see one for as cheap as £25 from MyBreast if your uneasy about paying for a consultation. £25 isn't really that much to lose is it if you're not happy with the surgeon.

But you'll be guaranteed a surgeon at the top of their game sweetheart with no worries about them 'not knowing what to do'

Its worth every woman seeing at least one BAAPS members if only for the opportunity to compare the consultation experience and surgery plan.

Spire charge more for their consultations with BAAPS members about £100 but the cost does come off the entire cost of the surgery if you choose the surgeon.

Having an uplift is something that can very easily go wrong so you really do want to ensure you're getting a surgeon that not only knows what they're doing babe but knows how to do it well and with BAAPS you have that assurity hun... Its worth at least one consultation before making a decision hun. Xx

Thanks, Cookie! I didn't realise it comes off the entire cost with Spire. I'll definitely have a look into that and MyBreast as soon as I can.

How important is it if the surgeons are BAAPS/BAPRAS registered?

Hi. I thought I'd responded to this but I can't see it so sorry if it a duplicate post...

Anyway I ended up having my surgery on 22nd March 2013. I had anchor lift with 495cc implants and areole reduction. All I can say is that I wished. Done it years ago - they look fantastic (although still bruised). Although I had large implants I have only gone from a D to E but the lift means that I have very full breasts from top to bottom. They best thing is that they stand up all by themselves:-)

The recovery so far has been easier than I expected. I went bak to work after 6 days and although I have tried not to do much with my arms I can brush my own hair and put it in a low ponytail. My left is still firmer than my right but it's still early days.

Your surgeon doesn't sound like he inspires confidence and agree with the others that you should look for someone else. I have a clear example of how tuberous breasts in the hands on the right surgeon can end up looking 'normal'.

I'm happy to answer any questions if I can xx

Yes, if you choose the surgeon with spire (cost of consultation £100) or MyBreast (cost of consultation £25) then the cost of consultation is redeemed in the overall cost of surgery babe, so if you choose the surgeon, in effect just as with the commercial clinics the cost of the consultation is effectively free isn't isn't it only difference is that you're paying upfront for the consultation rather than after. shrug

BAAPS/BAPRAS

Its members are fully trained plastic surgeons. They are involved in ongoing training with twice-yearly instruction and scientific meetings. All members are on the Specialist Register of Plastic Surgeons and are eligible to have a consultant appointment in the NHS. In addition each new member has to be recommended by two existing members who are fully aware of his/her ability as a cosmetic surgeon.

BAPRAS & BAAPS members are fully trained Plastic Surgeons. They have undergone a rigorous training programme. This involves at least six years training in recognised training centres, having regular assessments and exams. They are taught cosmetic surgery in lectures, courses, tutorials, and demonstrations. They are aided in their early operations by experienced surgeons.

Members also regularly attend meetings organised by BAAPS twice a year, they are all eligible to hold consultant positions in Plastic Surgery in the NHS. All NHS plastic surgeons have completed six years of specialist training and have obtained further qualifications such as (FRCS plast) are added to the specialist register in plastic surgery. These surgeons can then apply to become a full member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).

Members are also listed on the Specialist Register of Plastic Surgeons kept by the General Medical Council. They are recognised by BUPA, and other Health Insurance companies, and work in reputable hospitals and clinics for example private wings of NHS Trust hospitals, BUPA, and Nuffield etc.
BAPRAS & BAAPS are recognised by The Surgical Royal Colleges, The Royal College of Surgeons of Scotland, The Royal College of Surgeons of England, and The Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland as the professional body representing the field of cosmetic surgery.

This is no way saying the surgeons from the commercial clinics aren't as good as BAAPS/BAPRAS members. What the membership is, is a reassurance of experience and ongoing guidance throughout membership. With commercial clinics you really do need to research them! They don't come with this reassurance as the commercial clinics don't attract these members, so you really need to ensure the surgeons working in commercial clinics are on a specialist register for 'plastic surgery' (not all are, some are only 'general surgery') and for something like an uplift being on a specialist register for reconstruction is also a bonus to research, you then also need to research for reviews from previous patients, it a lot of hard work really to ensure you're getting a good surgeon whereas with BAAPS/BAPRAS the work is done for you and continues to be done for you if you get what I'm saying babe. Post by Sjelly 7th April 2013, 8:10 pm

Hi,

Thank you for responding and so pleased for you that your op went well and are happy with the results! I'd love to see pics, but as I'm a newbie, I'm unsure whether I'd be able to.

& in regards to Mr Netri, I think because my breasts are mildly tuberous, he couldn't really help without being confident in what he was doing (my breasts look more saggy and bigger than the pics of tuberous breasts i've seen at the clinics and on google, not to mention the slight asymmetry!).

Anyway, I do have a couple questions at the moment I'm hoping you'll be able to answer... What was the cost? And which type of implants did you have? x

I Got a discount as I also had my tummy done in December but Harley street surgery publish thier prices on thier website (one reason I went to them in the first place) and thier cost for whole procedure is £5250. I have polyurethane 'slim' implants, 495HP. They are also known as fury brazilians.

I'm going to try the picture thing now so will let you know. Hopefully my before pic does not become my profile Blush

Sorry cant get photos to upload from iPad. Mine were only mild. Right needed lifting 6cm/ left 5cm. I gave him the brief big and round and got exactly what I asked for. I'll try when on my PC tomorrow and post if I have any luck.

My surgeon also did reconstructions amd worked with burns patients so I was confident he knew how to minimise scars.

Good luck with your Research, keep having onsulations until you find the right doctor. I never paid for any insulation I had and I met 4 surgeons before deciding.

I had lollipop lift and 390cc round implants (I also had the polyurethane implants). I went with spire with a BAAPS/BAPRAS surgeon. I lost 5 stone so my boobs were very saggy and very empty D cup and now I am a firm pert 30FF. I had the first op in September but I needed a revision which I had done a week and a half ago (at 6 months post op) to change to a full anchor lift as I still had some loose skin left. This was all covered by my aftercare and I am very happy with the results and my surgeon was fantastic. I paid £5832.

The MyBreast website doesn't have the surgeons listed, so will contact them. Thanks for all the info, Cookie x

V1kk1m, no worries about the pics. I've been having a look at your surgeon, as I have a consultaton in Birmingham soon, I'm hoping to probably book an appointment with him too seeing as he is based there.

Really happy with all the advice you've all given me as well as sharing your experience.

I've had a quote of £5265 from right choice UK which seems incrediblle! It includes consultations, pre-assessment and tests, all treatment related charges, cost of Implants (Eurosilicone), take home medication and post-operative care. It also has a lifetime warranty for corrections, infections and complications. It seems a bit too good to be true?! I've been suggested to see Dr Umar Khan, but I've seen nothing on his website to suggest he does reconstruction.

Another thing, and I know this post is going to be crazily long, but I'm unsure as to what is the best implant out there. I was sold on the Allergan implants being amazing after my Transform appointment and thought that's what I wanted. How much do the type of implants matter?! I guess that's more research.

Also don't know what I should expect from aftercare. I am definitely willing to pay more if it means getting the right aftercare. I don't want unexpected surprises and have to pay again as others have for corrections (hoping it won't come to that though ofc!). Can any of you suggest places with really good aftercare??

xx

Generally hun if something sounds too good to be true, you can bet it is hun.

If the surgeon isn't a specialist in reconstruction I'd personally pass hun. As has been said many times in this thread, having a lift is a VERY technical procedure and things can and do go wrong. Or the scars won't be what you may have got from a more experienced surgeon.

Its worth getting the best surgeon you can babe.

You may find offers, you may find bargains, but none of that matters if you don't have the right surgeon for the job does it hun.

In regard to implants - transform sell Allergan CUI implants as standard. They are a very good implant, i have these myself but because Transform but them in bulk they do manage to get them cheaper and so will tend to push those on you without giving you other options which they should really.

Allergan also do a Premium implant called the Natrelle, these are very rarely offered at Transform unless you ask for them and there's generally about a £400 increase for the premiums in cost.

If you're not bothered about having A budget implant then this is what's mostly offered from the larger commercial clinics. If you want a premium implant you would generally have to ask and as I said there would probably be an additional cost.

If you use a BAAPS/BAPRAS member they use the premiums as standard. They won't use a budget implant hun. X

Post by 5stonedown 9th April 2013, 8:58 am

If you are looking in the Birmingham area I would recommend my surgeon. She is on the specialist register and is BAAPS/BAPRAS registered. Her specialty is breast reconstruction. I went to her direct and had my surgery at the Spire in Solihull. I needed a revision to correct dog ears and it was arranged with no issues at all, my surgeon is a perfectionist and ensures you have a fantastic result and I didnt have to pay anything extra. I even got readmitted after my surgery for IV fluids as I got dehydrated from vomiting after the GA and that was all included in the price too, I didnt pay a penny over the amount I was quoted. I had top of the range polyurethane implants although she also offers top of the range Nagor implants too if you dont want polyurethane. Here is a link to her website [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] If you want to see my before and afters pm me for my picture trail details. I am very very happy with my results, I had lost 5 stone and my boobs were a mess, I had a lollipop lift and 390cc round mod profile overs. She uses a technique to try to avoid a full anchor lift to reduce the scars by using liposuction in the crease as usually this causes the skin to contract which avoids the need to cut it away but unfortunately it didnt work for me as my skin was too damaged so I needed a bit more skin taking away so I had to have the revision to remove this and change to a full anchor lift but as I said it was not an issue at all and despite having 2 ops I'm glad we attempted the lollipop lift as if it has worked I would have had less scarring! I was just unlucky!

It really is advisable to research all surgeons in your own area lovely. If you're specifically wanting a BAAPS surgeon then you can find them in your area on their website HERE

Just click your area and it will list the surgeons, click on the surgeons and you will see where they can be found in your area.

Looking in your area, Mr Stephen McCulley and Mr Sanjay K Varma look to be surgeons you may like to consider given their credentials and are more than qualified to do the surgery youre wanting lovely - good luck! Xx

I went for the Slim texted implants as I wanted to reduce the risk of CC, however I paid extra for this and could have gone for standard ones. I ended up studying the catalouge and knowing all the sizes, widths etc off by heart.
I cannot recommend my surgeon enough but cookie is right you need to pick your own surgeon. If you have a consultation in birmingham let me know how you get on. He is definately worth a chat withuplift, BA and areola reduction - Page 2 1978086825

Thanks all.

Cookie, you were right about it sounding too good to be true. Right choice UK are extremely pushy and unprofessional in my experience. All questions I had were responded with questions. I was also sent this, "there aren't many surgeons who would take on a complex case (tubular, asymmetric) such as yours when they can do two cases in the same time and make twice as much money with half the hassle". I just thought I should add this as Zahid's attitude left a lot to be desired and I don't think anyone should be spoken to that way.

Anyway, moving on... I have contacted Stephen McCulley a few months back, but I was so busy, I never arranged a consultation which I'm intending to do (this month I hope!). I would prefer to have my consultations in Nottingham/Derby, however if I can't find a surgeon who is right for me in these areas, I'd definitely prefer to go to Birmingham next.

Your feedback is much appreciated 5stonedown and v1kk1m. Will let you know how I get on.

If you do come over to Birmingham, look up The Hospital Group's Mr Sultan Hassan, in Bromsgrove, straight run down the M42 from Nottingham. I would reccomend him. His speciality is reconstruction surgery, he works mostly with ladies who have had to have to have reconstructed breasts after a mastecomy, etc...
He was wonderful

Thanks, Loobs. I have read positive reviews about him, but not sure at the moment. I have an appointment this weekend with surgicare in Birmingham, think I'm going to be making a few more appointments in Birmingham anyway, so will see.

This is open to all, but my concerns with going with a private surgeon is the aftercare provided. Is one year all I should expect? I'm so confused, because it seems if I go with a surgeon working for a company, they provide longer/better aftercare?

Can anyone shed some light please?

I don't know if this is too off topic, sorry if it is!

What I will tell you hun is yes, BAAPS members do tend to offer less aftercare than the commercial clinics, although MyBreasts aftercare is fairly good in comparison...

What we've found here is that although you get less aftercare with a BAAPS member, we have found here that there are far less complications from those members than there are from the commercial clinics, so you have to weigh that up hun...

Do you need more aftercare if you choose a surgeon that would lessen the risk of complication?

This is only what we see here babe and the least complications so come from the those clinics using BAAPS members. Xx

Ahh thank you cookie.

I did see a BAPRAS surgeon (Mrs Dancey) at Bromsgrove today. She said I'd more than likely need two ops and was pretty shocked that I hadn't been referred to see a plastic surgeon on the NHS because it's one of the most severe cases she's seen and that no NHS surgeon would say no to treating it.

I want to get it done asap, but worried as she told me it would work out pretty expensive because I may need a few surgeries for it, which I wasn't aware of... I've budgeted up to 7K if I really have to go that far, but by the sounds of it, it may end up being more...She's advised me to go down the NHS route again and demand to be seen by a plastic surgeon and was suggested to see Stephen Mcculley in particular as he is more local to me and is fairly experienced.

I don't think I will get anywhere with my GP as she refused to refer me last time, but I was told by Mrs Dancey that It's my right to be referred even if they don't have the funding to treat me.

Was so positive about today, now I'm so disheartened seeing stars

This is what I find so amazing about BAAPS members. They will guide you in the 'right' direction, even if that means them losing out on a 'sale' so to say.

I think the information you've given seems to have given you a much clearer idea of what needs to be done and although its seemingly a lot of work, you sound better for it babe, even if you are a little dazed by it all right now and I did mention Mr McCulley in an earlier post. He looks to have amazing credentials hun, so hopefully he's the 'the one' for you.

I'd call Mrs Dancys secretary and ask for a letter of support hun. She's examined you and I'm sure wouldn't mind given how you've explained to her the difficulties you've had.

Get the letter and take it to your GP. If you have no letter still go to you GP and if your GP still refuses a referral after what you've heard today ask your GP for a copy of their complaints procedure and follow the guidelines on there.

You DO have every right for a referral babe. Whether you're eligible for a BA on the NHS or not isn't your GPs decision, so do push it sweetness and GOOD LUCK! Xx
