Allergic reaction to bandages
Hi has anyone else suffered from getting an allergic reaction fron their sticky bandages?
I had them removed on tues and everything was fine but now iv come up with a big red rash exactly the same shape as where my bandages were along the top of my chest.
Iv rang my nurse and told her I'm taking piriton and using a cold pack to help with the burning/ itching but was there anything else I could or should be doing and she said maybe use a camomile lotion as well but otherwise it should settle down in the next couple of days.
It is so sore- really red and blotchy and I was finally starting to feel back to normal and not taking any pain relief .
I also feel its so weird that the allergic reaction has come out now after 3 days of having the dressing removed?

Re: Allergic reaction to bandages
Hey hun didn't want to read and run, I remember several stories on here of girls that were allergic to their dressings....I can't find any at the mo....but take a look in the search box.
They got it sorted and in one case they gave her a shot of something and it went right away!

Re: Allergic reaction to bandages
Hey hunny! Hows your reaction now? I had an allergic reaction to the glue! I went back to my surgeon 2 weeks post op for a check up and he said I had a lot of glue still on the scars so picked it off with forceps, the next few days my scars were BRIGHT red, hot, really itchy. I ended up having to see a private consultant dermatologist because they weren't sure if I had cellulitis! I had to have steroid cream for 2 weeks and it really helped. I didn't have any bandages on my scars but I know it can be quite common to have a reaction to the adhesive on sticky bandages. Xxx

Re: Allergic reaction to bandages
Hi stokesy88 & Katy p, thanks for your support it's very much appreciated. Yes it has finally stopped itching today and I feel a lot better. I still had red patches from where the bandages were but they are slowly starting to fade so hopefully in the next couple of days it should have all cleared up. The only thing is I was supposed to be wearing a support strap but was unable to wear it cause of the allergy ( I've just been wearing my pj bottoms and my bra around the house for the last two days) but I have started to wear the strap again today so hopefully it won't have made too much difference in the healing/ positioning of the implants xx

Re: Allergic reaction to bandages
I wouldn't worry too much about 2 days not wearing your strap. I wasn't allowed to wear any bra at all for nearly a month. I was sooo paranoid I would end up with saggy boobs! But my ps said I was being silly! Glad to see you're feeling better now! Xxx
