Confused about bras! Empty Confused about bras!

Post by Lynnie 27th April 2010, 7:18 pm

After my op I was simply told to wear a sports bra day and night. I went for a check up with the nurse a week later and had my dressings changed and she said that I would probably be more comfortable wearing a sports bra at night still.

I don't see my PS again until I am 6 weeks PO. Having seen people say about wearing sports bra for 6 weeks I assumed that this is what I must do, day and night, til I see my PS again.

I've realised that some ladies are getting measured at less than 6 weeks, katie advised to leave it til 3 months (or at least to not spend much before thenn) and now sally has been told she can wear underwires after 8 days (lucky you chick!)

I am hating living in my sports bras all the time. I find them totally uncomfortable and keep having a little bit of bra off time everyday (only 10 mins or so) just to relieve the discomfort.

Can anyone tell me what I should be doing? Is there an alternative to wearing sports bras for the entire 6 weeks? help

I would contact your clinic/surgeon and check what they recomend. 6 weeks 24/7 seems to be the general rule. Other surgeons advise earlier based on the patients needs. Its the same as some people needing to wear a strap to encourage their implant pocket to settle lower and not in the high position we all get straight after the op. Others may be ecouraged to wear a push up bra to get a better cleavage. It is best to follow the advise given to you and not for anyone else. I too suffered the six weeks and I believe cookie suffered 12 weeks in the sports bra. It's annoying I know but believe me it will be worth it in the long run, it's not that long really and after 6 weeks you will be able to wear anything you want.

Hey hun

I agree with misf1, you need to check with your nurse or PS. We are all different and get different advice.

I was told to wear a sports bra for 6 weeks day and night.

Give your clinic a call to be on the safe side hun, you have paid a lot of money for those bad girls, don't want to spoil them for the sake of a few extra weeks Confused about bras! 113752 xx

You should be listening to YOUR surgeons advice hun Flash

I know 6 weeks might sound like a long time when you've been instructed by your clinic that this is what is required from you to gain the best from your surgery, but when you weigh that up against the time you waited for your new boobs and the money you've invested in them it's no time at all hun...

It's best not to compare your recovery with that of others babe as some will heal quicker and some will have differing advice, but you paid for the advice given by your surgeon because you trusted that advice - stick with it Lynnie, it's awful having to wait I know but it just makes your day when you finally get fitted all the more special. Lynnie,

I have to say Mr S has told me different things compared to what most people have been told by thire surgeons on most counts. He told me to only have 1 week off work, I could shower after 3 days, I had no strap or bandage, drive after 3 days, now I can wear different bras.

He seems so blase about everything, but as of yet his advise and recommendations have been right FOR ME every step of the way.

Blase is the exact word I used to describe him and it was the reason I decided not to have him do my surgery. Maybe that was a big mistake! Shocked

Thanks for the advice ladies. I'll drop her an email just to check but I'm pretty sure it'll be the 6 weeks if that's often the case.

Think maybe I need more comfortable sports bras!

lol sophie I know what you mean we are all so eager to get into ''real '' bras but now I am I miss my comfort blanket !!! lol they do feel safe in there so much so that I still wear mine at night !!! LOL I wore it 24/7 for 6 weeks nearly 7 and it feels so odd to let me boobs be FREE lol feels wrong as there considerably bigger than before !! im sticking to the idea that if I wear it at night it will help prevent the dreaded SAG in the longterm !! haha

yea Ive heard of surgeons who swear by no bra and others who advise underwires from day 1 ????? its sooooo confusing you would thin that all advise would be the same but I suppose that it depends on there experience it must all be ok or they wouldnt advise in the first place I must admit after my first B.A I was only 19 and I wore my support bra for all of a week I went on hol and wre no bra at all most days just a unsupporting bikini and mine were fine so I think as long as your comfy and its working for you stick with it x

the £6 one has a little pocket to put a ''chicken fillet'' for ladies who've had a mastectomy......if its a support bra as well, i dnt see why it shouldnt be fine to wear xxx

I do have the Asda sports bra and it is by far the comfiest. Unfortunately that's the one that's a bit big. It's definitely too big round the band now. My nearest Asda is about 40 miles away

Lynnie, not sure if you have a M&S near you but I found of all the sports bras my M&S front fastener to be the most comfortable and supportive throughout my recovery period, it also has a low band so doesn't irritate incision lines at all, it is more expensive than Asda at £18 but well worth it hunni and as your swelling has now reduced you won't waste it babe, I still wear mine for bed now and when I'm having a duvet day! :teehee:

Here's the bra babe - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I agree with cookie, the M&S bra suggested is sooooooo comfy, I bought one as I was looking for a low sitting band and this one is just super comfy and really keep the boobies in place!

I'm really glad cookie suggested it to me as it's the best sports bra ever!
