Deep Intravenous Sedation
Can someone please tell me how this works. I have googled and their explanation is as follows:
Deep intravenous sedation: Concious sedation
General Anesthesia: Un concious sedation
My surgeon is doing deep intravenous sedation, im super stressed, as i dont want to worry about being awake when they are operating Does anyone know how i will feel? Will i be out completely? Will i know what is going on? Will i feel them tugging on me...?
i am 8 days away from my op date
Thanks guys
Sheri

Re: Deep Intravenous Sedation
Hi Shenz,
I've just had a look and this is what I found:
There are three levels of conscious sedation:
In comparison a patient who has a GA is completely unconscious, asleep and unable to respond.
Do you know the type of sedation you will be having? I guess whichever you have will determine how aware and awake you are during the procedure.
Hope this helps!

There are three levels of conscious sedation:
- Minimal sedation: You are very relaxed, but awake.
- Moderate Sedation: You sleep through most of the surgery but can be awakened easily.
- Deep Sedation: You will sleep through the entire procedure.

Re: Deep Intravenous Sedation
Is this like a local anesthetic?
I have had operations before under a local anesthetic where I have been completely aware of what is going on around me, but couldn't feel anything.
However, my mum had an operation on her hand under local anesthetic and wasn't aware of anything that was going on! She was also given a mild sedative.
I think that there are many different levels of sedation, I would consult with your surgeon
