Considering changing to a daycase?? Empty Considering changing to a daycase??

Post by kayla 13th April 2010, 9:38 am

I am booked with MyBreast aa an overnight stay currently. I am considering asking about a daycase as through searching on here it costs £400 less AND they seem to have to keep you in overnight if there are any probs anyway.

I have had four ops all spinal anaesthesia (caesareans) and was fine. But have never had a ga before. I will get lots of help and total support from hubby for the op night (and for the week after op) if I do come home. My mum however says I am mad to consider coming home to save £400.

The saving may mean I decide to upgrade or change from the Nagor implants to Allergan inspiras and they would then only be £450 more not £850 more ( I know they are still costing me £850, just in my head I feel like they are saving me money, like when I buy sale things and they cost £50 instead of £100, i feel I have saved £50 not spent £50!!)

Any opinions, both sides of the fence, would be fantastic.xx

Sould also add in that I live about an hour and 15 mins away from the hospital in Cheltenham. Is this a prob for MyBreast i.e is it too far away?

maybe you could find a hotel close to the hospital to stay at. You can get good deals on premier inns, travelodges etc.
what hospital are you?

The Nuffield in Cheltenham.
The more I think about it, the more I am keen to find out more as I would love to be back at home. My hubby would of liked me home the day of my c/s so I think he will be really pleased with this decision.
I have a second consult with James McD tomorrow and will ask then.
What hosp are you going too? And are you going home on the night or staying at a hotel?

Hi I think if you tell them you live that far away they wouldn't let you change to a day case. When I booked mine the only reason
they let me was because I only live 20 mins away from highgate and if I remember rightly, I think you have to live within an hours drive away. I now can't stay in my flat coz there work going on in the building so I think I'm gna stay in a hotel. (you could do that and it would still be cheaper if you are thinking about it purely for
money reasons) x

I used to live in Belsize Park when I was at Uni and the Royal Free is a lovely hospital.
Nice to know that MyBreast aren't insisting you stay close by after your op for the night as I had heard some companies requesting you be withing half an hour.

i just phoned mybreast and asked to be sure, and the woman said that if youre a day case then thats it, you can go home afterwards. Theyll just keep you in if theres a problem and i dont have to stay at a hotel nearby

just to report that I never asked about a daycase as my booby situation has changed because I am further down the track post breastfeeding. I was having overs but now am having partials and just feel that due to reprots that they can be more painful and need a longer recovery I would be better staying in overnight.

Thnks so much for all the advie and info though. Really helped me feel at ease with my decision xx

[moved from clinics and surgeons]

Unders or overs Kayla, if both yourself and your surgeon are happy for you to be a daycase then regardless of your placement there is absolutely no reason at all barring complications why you should spend the night in hospital if it's not what you want. You will have the reassurance of knowing that should you need further assistance you will be kept in hospital anyway, so if you're happy to go home and it's what you'd prefer Kayla, call your clinic and discuss the possibilty with them babe, the hospital will do no more for you in regard to pain relief than you would have at home hunni, so try not to focus too much on that.xxx
