Exercise & weight gain post-BA
Hi ladies, I am having my BA on 5th April. I have a treadmill at home which I am addicted to and I am really concerned about 2 things;
1. How long it will be before I can get back on the treadmill again
2. Weight gain post op. I have heard you retain water & I will go mad if that happens & I can't exercise either lol.
Any advice would be great!!

Re: Exercise & weight gain post-BA
I have definately gained weight since my op but i havent done any exercise which is probably why!! hehe but im happy as i needed to gain a few pounds, plus i stopped smoking which must of accounted for some. You will be bloated after your op but that soon goes down and is from the GA/painkillers. Alot of girls take dulcolax after their op to help get the system moving!
I dont think i could've gone to the gym until at least 4-6 weeks post op personally but i had unders xxx

Re: Exercise & weight gain post-BA
Hi hun, I had a BA 5 days ago and the bloating is already going down, I also usually get nervous if I can't exercise because your body craves it when you are used to it, however, believe me, I have felt no need to move in these past few days and I know won't for a while. Your body knows when it needs to recover, so you will have to give it time. If you are worried about gaining weight maybe watch what you eat, but don't obsess over it, this is such an important decision that you have to do it properly and rest when you have to, for your health and for best results. It's well worth putting a couple of pounds on, you will soon lose them again once you resume your everyday life as it was before...

Re: Exercise & weight gain post-BA
I had similar worries about weight gain, but I weighed myself this morning and I weighed 1lb less than ba day, even with my 1lb of implants in. This is probably why I've noticed some rippling this week...
At first I did feel bloated but within a week this had gone down and I put 5lb on, but this (and more) seems to have disappeared and I have done no exercise other than looking after my children for the past 2 weeks.
So I wouldn't worry hun. Expect a few lb to go on but remember this is only water retention and bloating and it will soon go.
Enjoy vegging...I certainly did and miss it a lot!!

Hi, because your having ''overs'' you may well be back exercising earlier than you think. I was back on the cycling machine (boring) at 2 weeks PO. Iv jus started running again (treadmill) 5 weeks PO,made sure they were super suported though. Will need to listen to your own body as every body is different.

Hey Hunni
I'm a bit of a fitness freak, and I knew I was going to miss the exercise a LOT!
Anyway, I knew I wanted to protect my new boobies, so I asked the surgeon very specifically about what I could do and when ... here goes:
Walking - next day
Walking any distance - as soon as you feel ready
Walking fast - as soon as it's comfortable, probably at about 2 weeks PO
running/badminton - 6 weeks
6 weeks = practically back to normal!
Anyway, I did walk every day, and gradually increased it. I walked within my comfort zone, not too far to begin with and quite slow and gradually built it up. I also listened to my body and rested a lot in the first few days. Lots of sleeping!!
At two weeks PO, I started doing uphill walking on the treadmill. This was brilliant because it was low impact bounce-wise, but really got the heart racing and a good sweat on.
I saw my surgeon at 5 weeks PO and he seemed genuinely surprised at how well I was moving around (especially as he saw me at 1 week PO and I was still very sore!!) He said I could go back to doing everything. I was still a bit concerned about running as I'd tried it but couldn't manage more than a few seconds.
I asked if it was OK to run if it felt "funny" but no pain, and he said yes, it will feel strange to begin with.
I played badminton that night, helped by boyfriend clear trees the next day, and was running again at just gone 6 weeks PO.
Hope this helps.
Maria

Haha that's going to be the worst part as Easter is the weekend after my BA so I'm going to have to resist all the chocolate lol. :)

Thanks to you all for your very helpful comments, I will have to stop being obsessive and just rest and make sure I recover properly! Don't want anything ruining my new boobies!! :) x
