Re: drains
as the drains take away fluid and any blood in the area, I assume so.
Have you asked your surgeon how many heamatoma's he's had as a percentage of his total ops? This might be a useful number to know/compare x

Re: drains
Hi hun,you are right, the drains will take away the excess blood, therefore preventing heamatomas,it does depend on the surgeons preferences though.x

Re: drains
i think from my research best practice is to have drains - although some surgeons dont use them.
i didnt have a great deal of fluid in my drains - but much better drained away than around wounds.
my surgeon also said that they helped drain away the local liquid anaesthetic used during surgery to help minimise pain inthe immediate 12 hours after.
slightly uncomfortable when removed - ask for painkillers 1/2 hour before - but worth taking all precautions offered to you - no point in doing this and taking any risks with your investment.

Re: drains
There is some information about drains from the surgeon who answers questions for us here - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I've had two ops, one without drains and one with and can't actually say there was any difference is swelling post-op and I had gurgly boobies after both ops because of fluid, my first op without drains I had no pain whatsover right from the onset, second op I did, but that wasn't due to me having drains at all, as you know Pinky I had other complications, I also didn't feel a thing when the drain was removed, for me it was a piece of cake!

Re: drains
Ooops just to add, if you are a high risk for a heamatoma as I was for my second op, they will definately use drains hun, my surgeon doesn't usually use drains but when he weighed up the risks, it's felt that if there might be a possible bleed due to complications, the drain is best there to get rid of it.
Re: drains
thanks everyone, im glad that drains will reduce the risk of bleeding etc, that has put my mind at rest x
