Trouble with Micropore tape
Hi girls
I'm not getting on too well with the tape lately. It was fine at first, but I really feel like it's starting to irritate my skin and seems to be getting worse.
I've bought a new, thinner one (on a nifty dispenser!!) which declared itself suitable for sensitive skin, but I just think my skin has had enough of sticky things on it. I've checked with the nurse and I've got to wear it until my 3 month check in May to keep my scars flat!!
Can anyone recommend anything better? Are steristrips any kinder to fed-up skin? I'm not sure I can carry on with this tape for 2 more months...but I want to do the best thing for my scars too...

How about silicone gel sheets hun? Im using those at the mo and you leave them on 24hrs and wash them twice a day. They're the cica care gel sheets, avail from ebay x

Re: Trouble with Micropore tape
Everyone seems to be told different things. I had my stitches out on Friday (10 days post op) and the nurse put steri-strps on my scars. She told me to take them off after 4 days and then to leave my scars naked.

Re: Trouble with Micropore tape
I was told the same as you Angelpie (nurse = Rebecca?).
I felt a bit uneasy at first with naked scars, so I put steri-strips over them, as I'm allergic to the tape, and it was fine, didn't itch or anything.
My scars are fully naked now though & looking good! :-)

Yeah, it was Rebecca. My actual incissions look quite good, but around the edge of them it's kind of a bit raised... not swelling , but just a kind of pale lumpiness (is that a word?!) I don't know if I'd be better puting tape over them. This isn't helping you much is it Carrie... sorry. :oops:MrsMartini wrote:I was told the same as you Angelpie (nurse = Rebecca?).

Re: Trouble with Micropore tape
Thanks girls - I will try the steristrips I think, as they sound cheaper and I've already spent a fortune on Dermatix! lol
I'm sure they'd be fine just naked now, but seeing as my nurse was so insistent that they should be covered most of the time for 3 months to keep them flat, I'd kick myself if I ended up with lumpy scars. They're looking pretty good at the moment though.
Ok, next question - where do I get steristrips? From the plaster section in Boots??
