Drains?
Hi girls,
This may be a stupid question but I am a bit confused... does everybody have drains put in when they have a BA or is that more for an uplift or a re-op?
Also, when you do have drains, where do they come out of? Does it leave more scars??

Hi Hattie
No question is stupid!!!! xx We all ask them and learn from each other!! I did not have drains, my surgeon does not routinely use them. Not all girls did either, different surgeons have different methods and preferences. I would imagine they are placed in the incisions?? though unsure if scarring is different.
I am sur someone who had them will be more helpfull than me!!!

Re: Drains?
Hey I had drains last week. My surgeon preferred to use drains, I asked the nurse If they left scars and she said they will only leave a dot they are not very thick my surgeon used them to drain excess blood to stop swelling which is a good idea.I was a daycase and had mine out before I left it was not a pleasant experience shall we say lol xxxxx

Hey Hattie, as Mia says, no question is stupid... Frig you should read back the q's I came out with before my BA.
I, like Mia didn't have drains. As previously mentioned above all surgeons use different methods.
I have a friend that did have drains during her BA back in June of this year and her 'dots' are still evident, but not as bad.
:) xo

Re: Drains?
Hiya Hattie, I had drains, like the others have said it's the surgeons preference. I was told the drains leave a tiny hole which just heals on its own.
I can honestly say I felt nothing when my drains were removed. I had previously had a drain attached to my bile duct after gallbladder surgery and was dreading the drains being removed (even though I knew they wouldn't be as far inside my body) but hey it was nothing, so don't worry if you do have to have them.

Re: Drains?
Hi hun, I had drains and I was more worried about them than having the op but I shouldn't have worried at all as they didn't hurt when being removed. They're used to drain excess fluid and I think they helped to stop a lot of swelling which was good. I have no marks at all were the drains were but then everyone is different xxx

Re: Drains?
Hi, I had drains and had to go to a funeral with them in as I had them for a couple of days afterwards! Bit of a pain as every time I got up I forgot about them and dropped the flippin things! I was a little scared about them coming out but it wasn't painful at all, just a bit uncomfortable. I have a 'dot' but am sure it will heal, not at all bothered about that.
Good luck hun x

Re: Drains?
It depends on your surgeons preferences hun.I had drains, they came out at about 6 hrs post op.Felt uncomfortable, but the best thing to do is ask for some pain relief 20 mins or so before they remove them. They will put little dressings on the tiny holes, but the holes soon fade hun x

Re: Drains?
I had drains too hun both times. They have left a mark and actually were quite sore afterwards but like the others said its more of dot about an inch or so from the end of the incisions under my arms.
I had them taken out the next day before I left. I think tizzyt has given a fantastic tip there. Get some pain relief 20 mins before they are removed. If you are a day case and have them you probably still have lots of morphine in your body which is why its less uncomfortable. Its very quick but I have to be honest and say I did find it uncomfortable to say the least!

Re: Drains?
I actually didn't feel a single thing when I had my drain removed, I was asked to take deep breaths in and out three times and the drain would be removed on three, I took one breath in and it was out on the first breath out!!!!!!! I have a tiny mark were it went in, which was just after my incision scar, but that's it!
Re: Drains?
girls for all your replies, I wasn't sure if it was just in specific cases that they used drains but now I know it is simply surgeons' preference. i will ask my surgeon if he uses them or not and if so then thats a good idea tizzyt about the pain relief!
Tazzytwo - I can't believe you went to funeral with your drains still in! i think having leave the hospital and walk about with them would freak me out a bit .

Hi
I had drains with my first B.A. but not with my second B.A. Some surgeons use them some dont, but i noticed the difference not having them the second time felt more pressure and more swelling with out the drains. They only leave tiny little white scars which are unoticable.

Re: Drains?
I had drains when I had my op 4 months a go. My nurse who took them out was a bit of a tyrant and wasn't particularly gentle. The most surprising bit was the noise it made, like air squeeling out. It was more uncomfortable than painful though and my swelling was very minimal. I had also been taking Arnica before the op so I think the arnica and drains combined meant I had hardly any swelling and no bruising.

Re: Drains?
I just had one drain for my tummy tuck and it was fine - when it was taken out it was really weird - kind of like a snake wigglling through your abdomen! Stings a little bit, but nothing more than that.
