General Anethestic and periods...? Empty General Anethestic and periods...?

Post by Daniella_Parry 16th December 2009, 9:08 am

Hello ladies,

This may be a really silly question but can having a GA affect my period? I was due 2 weeks ago and there is no sign of it coming? I have a 5 1/2 month old baby and fell pregnant a couple of months ago which was a big shock but I sadly had a miscarriage. After the miscarriage me and my fiance decided we didnt want anymore for a while but I am so scared I am. I am on the pill so not sure how I would fall pregnant but my period is now 2 weeks late....

I was hoping it was the GA but I wasnt sure if that affects periods....

Can anyone help me?

YES!

I just had this discussion with my nurse on monday Danielle, it does effect your hormones for sure!

I had my period the day of my op, it lasted 12 days!!!!!!! when I was dicussing this with the nurse she said that the GA can mess with your hormones, it also explains the blues after surgery for no reason at all....

It may be advisable though to do a pregnancy test just to be sure, but I hope I offered some comfort in knowing the GA can effect you. xxx

Thank you girls!

After the miscarriage I dont want to be pregnant again, it was so horrible. I will buy a test when I go out later just to be sure.

Cookie- thank you, it is comforting knowing that GA affects your hormones. xxxxx

Daniella, big hugs to you on your miscarriage babe. That must've been hard for you both. On the period subject, your post has made me think....I had my op on 7th Nov and haven't had a period yet and I am NOT pregnant so maybe it does mess up ones hormones. Hope you're ok xxxxx

Sorry to hear about that hun, the GA can affect your cycle so give it time, you could always take a test if you're worried x
