Steristrips...
Hey everyone! Bit of advice needed please,
I'm sure I read on here ages ago that you keep the steristrips on until they come away from the skin naturally... Well today is my 3 weeks post op birthday, and I have had the new steristrips on since 7 days post op when the nurse took my strapping and old dressings off... Can I take the steristrips off myself or shall I wait until they lose their stick? I've been using Bio Oil on my boobs but when do I start using it on my scars?
Thanks girls xxx

hi hun
ive read somewhere its bst to wait untill the steristrips come away themselves, as for the bio oil i dont think you can use this on your scars untill at least 6 weeks.
happy healing xx

Re: Steristrips...
Hey lovely,
No bio oil on scars until at least 6 weeks post op, otherwise there's a chance you could get infection.
As for the steristrips, I would leave them on until you see your PS for you 4-6 week check, if you pull them off and they're still sticky you could dislodge a stitch and cause further problems.
You're only 3 weeks p/o so just be patient for now

Re: Steristrips...
I left my steri strips on for as long as I possibly could, then when I couldn't stand the fact that they were turning black and were well minging I soaked them off.
This was at 3-4weeks post op.
I'm glad I did too as I felt there was a couple of bits of the insision that needed to 'dry out' a bit more and within 2 days of the steri strips off my scars were all dry and healing nicely.
I agonised for ages over whether to do it or not and I posted on here a few times about it too .

Re: Steristrips...
I used to dry mine gently with the hairdryer when I came out of the shower each time. They lost their stick after about 2/3 weeks I think then I just took them off.

Re: Steristrips...
I never had these steri strips but the girls have given you great advice. I was told no bio oil or anything like it on my scars for 6 weeks and only after my check up when they could check my healing.
Re: Steristrips...
I was told to keep them on for 10 days and if they hadnt peeled off by then to take them off. I replaced them though and kept steris on for 4 weeks just to make sure the incisions were closed. Everyone has different routines for this bit hun so dont worry x
Re: Steristrips...
Thanks for your answers girls... they are starting to lose their stick now so I'll just wait for them to fall off. They feel SO much SOFTER after this weekend! Unreal, starting to feel like my own now!
The "sunburn" feeling has worn off and the only pain/irritation I have is around the sides and itchy underneath! Woohoo!

Re: Steristrips...
Hiya,
My ps re-applied mine today & i have to have them on for 3 months. I have new tape to reapply myself. I am only to change it once the ends start fraying then i apply new strips. She says it helps to stop the scar stretching which in turn will give a neater looking scar.
Each ps is diff though but i can say i don't relish the thought of applying it for 3 months!!! :-( oh well i'll do what i am told x
