Booking time off work for BA
Hi Girls
I am going to book 2 weeks off work when I have my BA . My question is, and I appreciate it may be different between employers, but do you have to book the time as holiday rather than sick because it is a cosmetic procedure and not a illness related procedure for example? I have looked in all the policies where I work and I cannt find anything about it and I dont really wanna ask them about it at this stage! (I think I may have to mind you)
Lots of love
Gail

I would think surgery is confidential information Gail, wheather it be under the heading of medical, surgical or cosmetic is no ones business really.
Depends on how you feel about sharing this info. I would say all company policies differ, as do all the ladies thoughts on this.
Why not discuss with surgeon and g.p. before you make a decision. xx

Re: Booking time off work for BA
Hi Gail, I booked 6 working days off from work (10 incl the weekends) and I took it as paid annual leave... I don't think you can take it as sick leave for the reasons you suspect... Maybe call your HR dept anonymously or talk to a colleague you can trust for more of an idea, hope this helps xx

Yes, you can take it as sick leave...... I did. All you need to tell your employer is that you are having a minor op (give as much notice as you can), but you wish to keep the nature of it confidential, you are not obliged to discuss the details. I have a very supportive GP who did me a certificate stating 'recovery from surgery', however my PS said he would do this for me as well. xx

Re: Booking time off work for BA
My work do not cover what they call "elective cosmetic surgery" under their sick policy.
My surgeon gave me a two week sick certificate signing me off of work and it had "recovery from operation" on it. However, I didn't think it would take much for someone to google the surgeon's name or address to find out that it was from Transform!
Therefore, I discussed it with my lovely boss who sorted it all out for me.
I would double check that your policy doesn't state anything about elective surgery. If it doesn't then you're laughing!
Hope this helps,
Marie

Re: Booking time off work for BA
Hi Gail, I work for a supermarket and asked them exactly the same question and was told I needed to take it as holiday. I did question them though especially as I hardly ever have time off sick and the answer was the same. Didn't really matter to me as I had the holiday to use.
I suppose you could call in sick for 2 weeks but wouldn't be able to tell anybody though. Depends if you're brave enough and not worry about getting caught out!!
