yukky looking scar....
Hi everyone...you probably remember me saying that one of my scars was looking really red and sore. On Friday i looked at it again and it was milky looking in the centre...yuk! that was it, i was getting into a right state. it always happens to me. I took your advice and gave my nurse a call. Typically she wasnt in on Friday but they did however, say that a nurse from another area would call me.
I decided in the mean time that i would go straight to the nurse at my own doctors, as i wanted someone to actually look at it to know what i was talking about. Luckily she agrreed to see me. She said my boobs look fab!! she told me that this was the result of my body rejecting the stiches and that it was nothing to worry about. She went on to wipe it and applied an Inadine dressing (which is orange coloured soaked dressing) and covered that with a wateproof tegaderm plaster thingy. She gave me a handful of dressings and told me to change evry couple of days. She was lovely and really put my mind at rest. Later that evening the nurse from transform called. She too was lovely. I told her i had ended up going to my local nurse and said what she had given me to treat it and she agreed she would have done the same!
Did anyone else have this with their scars?? how long till it got better??

Re: yukky looking scar....
Whoopsie I prob get shot down for this but I would not under any circumstances leave that for a couple of days, I would change dressing, clean wound and re-apply every day...
IF it is infected you have to 'jump' on it immediately.. don't get palmed off..
any deterioration get yer backside immed back to docs/clinic whatever and jump up and down !!
not to be taken lightly hun...
I have been on receiving end of pat on head and all be ok.... and turns out its not...
daily check hun daily...xx

Sorry Katie, but the nurse is right (I am one too). If you keep taking the dressing off everyday, the wound has no chance to heal. You undo all the healing everytime you take it off. Best to leave it for two or three days. If it gets infected you'll know as it will hurt.

Hi whoopsy,
Sorry to hear ur having concerns.......your GP nurse sounded lovely but I think it it were me, I would have my PS or a member of his team look at the soreness of your incision......best to be on the safe side rather than let an infection develop.....xxxx

Re: yukky looking scar....
Good for you for taking the initiative and seeing your local nurse whoopsy, alot of girls get liquid around the stitches and it usually heals up fine, take your nurses advice and keep an eye on it x
Re: yukky looking scar....
Hey lovely,
I think I'd probably book in to see the nurse at Transform to get her to look at it, and at least get it documented on your notes etc.

Re: yukky looking scar....
Thanks everyone...I changed dressing this morning, I antibacted my hands first so no germs and tried not to touch the dressings. Had them first put on friday afternoon. It didnt look any different from friday to be honest!
I will give transform tommorrow and se what they think. The scar is not hurting at all!
Why does nothing go strightforward! was doing so well!
Thanks again everyone, your advice is gratefully received xxxx

Hi Whoopsy.daisy.
One of my scars was kind of yucky at first. Very wet with some slimey exudate. It cleared up fine though. It does not mean that it is infected, just that its a bit slower to heal. Keep it clean and dry, change the dressing every two or three days and it will dry up and heal. Time to worry is if it starts hurting or gets red and/or hot. Mine is fine now.

Re: yukky looking scar....
Hi everyone. Looked at it today and it looked like it was worsening. I called nurse at transform and she told me to go straight away. She looked at it and said it was quite normal. She explained that it was my body rejecting the sutures. She cleaned it up and removed with twezers two knots of the sutures which were apparently causing this. She told me to change dressings every 2 days. Shower and hairdry scars and reapply dressings until it scabs over. I have to keep my eye for any changes and call her with concerns!. Im glad I went. The advice my own nurse gave was fab and she gave me the same dressings as transform nurse, but transform nurse noticed about these sutures as i guess she deals with this sort of thing all the time! I feel a little more at ease now but am keeping my fingers crossed that it heals properly now as it makes me worry like mad!
Thanks for all help and advice everyone, its so nice to have so many friends on here that care xxxxBig hugs to you all xxxx

Great news Whoopsy!!
Peace of mind is a great medicine!! Keep your eye out for any changes as they say, though sounds like you are on the road to proper healing now. xx
Take it easy and rest when you can xx
