I will be two weeks post op tomorrow. Have been sleeping on the recliner chair. Tried my bed last night, sitting up (ish) with pillows.....didn't get a wink.....so uncomfortable. So do I go back to the chair tonight or try the bed but lying down on my back......what to do????????

Aw bless!!

Such a nightmare!!

You should be fine to lie down now ...swelling should have mostly gone. Perhaps just keep head raised on an extra pillow if more comfy...one under arm, upper body...whichever way is most comfortable for you. Does take a while to adjust...boobs get in the way whatever you do The sleeping upright dilema 113752 Have fun trying The sleeping upright dilema 557141 xx

At two weeks post op if you're comfortable to do so you should be fine to sleep on your side now, there's no reason really now to keep yourself propped up, as far as I'm aware it's recommended you sleep upright for about 5 -10 days.

Im glad Im not the only one who has found it impossible to sleep upright!! In hospital I managed 1.5hrs sleep sat bolt upright with head tilted back but I think that was sheer exhaustion ! Last night i slept proped up in bed with 4 pillows. I was suprised how comfy it was when i just told myself it was this or no sleep again!!

So is it 2 weeks then that you can dispense with the upright sleeping? I wasnt given much info on this - more, common sense, if it hurts at all, dont do it ! and sleep at 45 degree angle for a few nights.

Hope you get a good nights sleep!!

I feel your pain hun, it was the hardest part for me, could only sleep downstairs on the sofa with my v pillow, didn't get any sleep in bed. At my 1 week check I was told I could now lie flat on my back or anyway that I found comfortable so you should be fine xxx

Its horrible isnt it sleeping upright. At least the good thing is its suppose to be good for your face The sleeping upright dilema 557141

I had the following setup: 2 firm pillows for my head and 1 v pillow under my lower back which stopped me from sliding down and i could rest my arms on. Took a little while getting used to but at least didnt get any back ache xx

I remember those days of having to sleep upright....absolutely terrible!! I had three pillows to prop myself up with and one pillow under my bottom because it was ever so sore The sleeping upright dilema 557141 !!! You should be able to lie flat on your back now. I was told i could after 10 days. xxx

Hi hun,

I was the same, moved from the sofa to my bed and didn't get a wink of sleep - it was too tempting to roll over!

I slept on my sofa for the first 10 days, til I had my check up with the nurse and was told that I could sleep on my side.

I slept on the sofa and had lots of cushions propped against my back and then all the way up, behind my head too, so that I didn't feel too "sitting up". Then I got one of those long, squishy beanie cushions (they look like draught excluders!) and had that down the side of me, shoulder level, so that I could turn my head to the side and was more comfortable.

I hope this helps, although you should be ok to sleep on your side by now.

Marie
