capsular contracture
I've just found this link:

Was anyone else aware that bacteria in the mouth is said to have something to do with CC? It's not a proven theory yet but apparently biopsies taken of scar tissue around the implant from CC patients have shown strains of bacteria that grows usually in the mouth.
Pretty interesting stuff, but I think my dentist might think I'm mad if I asked him for antibiotics following any dental work for fear of ruining my implants!

Re: capsular contracture
That's really interesting, Jessica, thanks for posting it. I'm getting really paranoid about infection and cc at the mo!
Just wondering - and this may sound really stupid! - but in that piece they mentioned bacteria which are also involved in food poisoning (Listeria monocytogenes and Clostridium
perfringens). Do you think that means that getting food poisoning could also increase risk of cc??

Re: capsular contracture
Great article Jessica - really interesting. I had quite a lot of dental work done about 2 weeks before my original ba and my ps didn't mention the risk of infection at all. It was only when the anaesthetist mentioned it afterwards (he noticed where I'd had the teeth removed and asked when it was) that I wondered what the relevance was and looked into it. Thankfully I had no complications (well no infections anyway) but I do wonder if I should have waited a little longer after having the teeth out. Hindsight is a wonderful thing hey!
