Sore nipples!
Blimey my nipples are getting more and more sore! Anyone else have this? And any experience on how long it lasts? Nothing else is giving me any trouble, just my nipples red raw, especially if I accidentally brush my arm against them.
At first I thought it was cos I was due my period but that has now been and gone. I've been using coconut oil, and Multi Mam compresses but nothing is helping!!

Re: Sore nipples!
Mine feel sunburnt!!!! I Put a tea towel in the freezer tonight and then layed it across me it was lovely. Also just not having a bra on for half an hour or so helps!! I can't wear a tight vest because they look so swollen! Xx

Re: Sore nipples!
Oh ek, yes! Sore nipples were the pits, where like you say, any slight brush past them hurts. Mine too felt sunburnt as did my clearvage area for a while. Wearing a seat belt was awful cos it literally was like chafing over sunburnt skin, so painful.
It does pass, not sure when, I just stop noticing it now. Maybe at 5 or 6 weeks? But again everyone's different. ..hopefully it will be sooner!
I'm 7 weeks now and the only pain I have is a slight discomfort in my left incision occasionally, but feels like nerves knitting back together as it's inside not out. And my right arm is still a little tight when I try to raise it up and to he side, like if I put my arm around someone? That action is still a little tender on the right.
Again, feels like muscle ache.
It does get better as time goes on guys xxx

Re: Sore nipples!
One to two months I'd say. And it can flip between numb and super sensitive. Keep them moisturised, the rubbing can also help desensitise as well if you can bear it!

Re: Sore nipples!
Lansinoh, the nipple cream for breast feeding might be an idea. I had extremely sore nipples while feeding and this cream was fantastic. Which also reminds me, I used to put cabbage leaves in the fridge, they get really chilled and are breast shaped, fit inside your bra, was another relief of painful nipples. Might help x

Hey [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I know everyone's surgeons are different and have different options but I just had a two week post op check up and I've been told I can use bio oil from now! And on my way to buy Some sports bras as macom is really squishing me in. The nurse said I don't need the 'compression' any more.. just something supportive! Xx

Re: Sore nipples!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], you can moisturise the breast from the go, its just the scars you need to steer clear of for around 6wks. They may look closed, but there might be a tiny pinprick hole in them, so best to keep them nice and clear.
@Kay150, most sports bras are 'compression', its what helps keeps things down!! But if you're clear from the macom, anything non-wired will do, as long as it fits well.

Re: Sore nipples!
Ok thanks ladies :-)
I'm looking for a decent fit sports bra, I bought a 32d m&s one & it leaves deep seam marks on my boobs & scar area. I'm finding it realy hard to find a sports bra without loads of seams all over it :-/
Any suggestions??
Thanks xx

I suggest putting a panty liner in the seam to pad it out!!

Re: Sore nipples!
Oh I'm worried about using bio oil on my scars now! My nurse said I can do it from today (2 weeks PO).
And I've found myself a nice supportive one with no seams from Asda (one in my avi) was only £6. It's supportive but not squishing me in.
In other news I sneezed today and it was the worst thing EVER!

Re: Sore nipples!
How've you avoided sneezing for 2wks!! That deserves a medal in itself!!
You should always listen to your surgeon. In my opinion only, from taking care of you lovely ladies for 2yrs...I would avoid the scars until wk6. Quite recently we had a girl who's nurse said she could moisturise the scars at 2wks. She was sceptical, but the nurse said, so it must be OK. 2wks later she was back in hospital with a very nasty infection. Now, I'm not telling you this as a horror story, just a precaution. I'm not medically trained in any way, but your scars are not 100% sealed at 2wks. If there's scabbing, they're still porous, and any type of moisture is an invitation for bacteria. That's why we suggest blow drying them on cool after showers. Its also why you cant bath/swim for 6-12wks, to make sure no nasties are getting in.
6wks is not going to set your scar healing aesthetics back. The moisturising is mostly for the massage to help break down the scar tissue. I tried this when I got the all clear to and it made me so queasy. So I buffed them with Tamanu balm to get rid of the dead skin, and just left them alone. Today, they're absolutely invisible unless you're looking for them. So in my personal opinion only...I'd wait.

Re: Sore nipples!
Haha I dont really know how I've avoided it either!!
That's great advice thank you Charlii! Personally I was shocked she said I could do it this early on and I'd definitely feel more comfortable waiting! I'm a worrier as it is so I'd rather keep the risks to a minimum!!! She so said I could drive/sleep on my side but I'm definitely not doing either for a while. I tried driving but felt way too awkward so just left it! Xx

Re: Sore nipples!
I would wait too hun to massage,, like you say, nurses and side sleeping was fine but it's difficult this early on isn't it! Took me 6 weeks to side sleep on 2 pillows, before that I was still upon the v pillow.
Driving hard as well, gear 5...argggghh?

Re: Sore nipples!
Great advice ladies, thank you x
Charlii- do you know if I should be doing any kind of massage with my furries? No ones told me anything ??
I was given ok to drive at 1wk post op but no gym until 6wks post op?
I want to go spinning !? I feel fine, been cleaning , driving , sleeping on my side & so far all ok?!, I had implant exchange tho so maybe why it's been a bit easier?
What do you think?

Re: Sore nipples!
Absolutely no massage unless specifically told to by your surgeon. The furries especially. The name comes from their velcro like shell which needs to adhere to the pockets, so they need stability. As for your scars though, same as the others, you can massage the scars from around 6wks.
I think if you're told 6wk for gym, wait 6wk. If you do yourself a mischief, they will whip your aftercare right from under you. It's really not too long to wait in the grand scheme of things. Better to be safe than sorry
